32EBoozer
I am really expecting to see JJ & Clemons take a big step forward this season with more PT. A full offseason of strength & speed training should easily allow for a doubling of their stats from last season. Last season 27% of defensive snaps. Hoping to see that closer to 50% this year. Expectations: In the range of 60- 70 tackles, 5-6 sacks and 12-15 Qb hurries expected with twice as many snaps. With a better grasp on the defensive scheme I would hope those numbers would increase to 8-10 sacks and 17-20 Qb hurries. What’s everyone’s expectation for these 2 ? Bryce Huff, I don’t know what to expect because I don’t know how they’ll use him in a greater role. Thoughts?
KRL
The edge situation is going to be interesting this year: - With Lawson entering the final year of his contract, will the team limit his reps to get the "young pups" on the field? I think so, a productive trio of Johnson, Clemons & Huff enables Douglas to maintain cap flexibility at the DE spot for 2-3 years - Franklin-Myers can flip inside on passing downs so that opens up additional reps on the outside - Since Ulbrich/Saleh likes rotating the DLine and keeping the reps in the 35-45 range, I'm not sure anyone will have huge numbers. To measure their effectiveness you'll probably have to divide their stats by time played Whatever happens at least we finally have legit young talent at the position

Both Bosas usually gets around 50 for comparison

Bryce Huff, I don’t know what to expect because I don’t know how they’ll use him in a greater role. Thoughts? It’s important to first determine where the snaps are going to come from. Many of us expected Lawson to be cut but Saleh’s words & the Jets’ actions make that unlikely. So on the right side, I would expect Lawson’s team leading Edge reps to go down while Clemons go up. Clemons had a very good year stopping the run (better than Lawson) so I would envision he takes more reps on running downs, keeping Lawson fresh on true pass sets. The Left side is where things are a bit more complicated. You’ll recall Huff taking the vast majority of reps on third down passing plays. That is where he is near elite (he’ll become so when he converts more sacks) so I don’t expect things to change there. IMO, the biggest (unannounced) change that no one is talking about is JJ starting in the base defense at Left Edge while JFM starts at LDT in place of Rankins. Franklin Myers has developed into a good interior run stopper and will likely get some downs off on true run sets to keep him fresh for his stronger attribute, which is getting after the QB. The Jets are building a rotation with very good to near elite pass or run specialists on the back-end. Guys like Huff, Quinton Jefferson, possibly Al Woods. We might even see Lawson become more of a specialist. So a potential base defensive starter like JJ and possibly Clemons will not have the same opportunity for sacks like Huff & Lawson. I expect JJ & Clemons to each net about 5-6 sacks. Next step Huff & a healthier Lawson should have 10 within their reach in this rotation.

rangerous
It’s a little hard to say which way this will go since they like to rotate the big guys so much. I’m guessing their ideal plan is to verify that Clemons and Johnson can make Lawson expendable. They made need to a sap e once the Rodgers deal finally goes down. We’ll see. Lawson had a decent season. Johnson and Clemons both showed good flashes but also weren’t available for every game.
CSNY
To me Lawson was a disappointment. He’s is getting paid to be a game changer but rarely did he perform to where teams had to game plan specifically to stop him. Decent player but not worth his salary

I'm really not that excited about what Clemons can do. He was not nearly the impact player JJ was. Huff is going to be what he is, a guy that can beat you at the line but if Huff gets more time in the rotation, teams will start to double him and that will neutralize him. For all the quickness and speed Huff shows, all his sacks were from beating one man at the LOS which is great, but I have never seen him use a move to break a double as we see from Q on a regular basis. I like em both .. JJ ... I expect him to become a stalwart mainstay ... Above average player ala Calvin Pace. Clemons is an enforcer.Huff to me was an awesome surprise .. I hope his production continues!.. team can still use a home run hitter.Sent from my Pixel 7 using Tapatalk
Bobby816
I'd like to see JJ and Huff get more snaps this year. I'm not a JFM hater... but I like our pass rush a lot of the time without him at DE.
