This team has a ton of holes

The jets have falsely convinced themselves that they are just a good QB away from going all the way.  They needed one more year of development and adding more good players via the draft.

To hell with one more year, let’s go!

So if we don't have a star there it's a hole?
We need an OT yes. But even if we draft a guy at 13, they might not start over Brown or Becton. So we actually have 2 starting OTs.
C I agree with you on this one.
DT, we need depth. We need 1 more guy that's a run stuffer. Q, Jefferson, Thomas there now and JFM can slide inside if we need to as well.
LB we likely need 1 more guy. But I can see us liking our starting group now as well with CJ, Q and Sherwood. Sherwood is very underrated.
S: We have our starters in Clark and Whitehead. Parks and Davis as depth
WR: We have Wilson, Davis, Lazard, Hardman and Mims. It's not a hole. Can it like every position be upgraded? Sure. That's everywhere for every team thoguh.

Has Sherwood had a game of note yet ? I can't remember ever saying that guy is a game wrecker.

The team as of 4/10 blows goats and plans on trading players and picks for a player who doesnt want to play and has zero invested interest in the success of the NY Jets.

If you listened to the podcast  he said he was only 90% retired. 10% of A-Rod is still better than the QB’s currently on the roster.

JD has done a poor job so far this off-season addressing team needs. And this is assuming QB is figured out, but lets no focus on that right now.

Seems like a silly premise to me.  Where are they worse off than last year and how can they fix it?

OT?  Same as last year, only Mitchell now has experience and AVT proved he can play well at T.

C?  Probably a downgrade, but McGovern is still out there and there are other options available.

DT? Probably a mild downgrade, but they added some pieces and have had other guys in that can play.  I certainly don't consider this a hole.

LB?  Alexander is still out there and I don't think they play 3 LB very often.  They still have Mosley and Williams.  As pointed out elsewhere, Chuck Clark probably slot in at "LB" equivalent fairly often.

S?  Joyner is still out there and they added Clark. Clark is probably a better player than Joyner, so is the issue free safety vs. strong safety?  Maybe they want more interchangeability?  I don't know if I love the S room, but I think MCII fits the Joyner role pretty well anyway.

WR?  You don't think Lazard is an upgrade over Moore?  WTF?  Moore was a promising WR with a big mouth and a problem in the locker room.  Moving on from him is a plus even if it is a shame to lose his potential.

If you thought last year's team  was a super bowl team without a QB this is a silly post.  The roster won't be perfect 53 deep, but they should be able to field a team that would beat up on the 2022 Jets with moderately capable QB play.  If Rodgers plays like 2020 and 2021, they should be rolling.

I agree - if our guys are healthy we have more than enough on the Oline. If they aren't healthy we need to grab one high. I just don't think in a win now team we should be drafting a left tackle to protect Rodgers his rookie year. One mistake and he could get hurt. We need a vet at left tackle. Maybe we could work a rookie into that spot but opening day would make me nervous. Becton being healthy would be best possible situation. We can grab a center in the second round. As for receiver, I think we are fine there - no holes. Wilson, Lazard, Hardman, Davis, Mims. Maybe draft a depth piece. Also, it's possible we have guys they have been developing that will be ready to step in as backups.

meh...fans of all 32 can make the same list. But it's nice not having 'QB' at the top of our wish list

So continuing on, the Jets have 7 elite players with Rodgers AND ..

Very Good Starters:  DT JFM, CB3 Carter II

Very Good Specialists:  Edge Huff, DT Jefferson

Big Hole (as of April 10):  Center, Run Specialist DT

Below Average Starter:  LG Tomlinson

Don’t Sleep On:  Tony Adams as the starting FS

* It’s ok if the rest of the roster is average … but the Jets have intriguing talent elsewhere in JJ, Lawson, Clemons, Quincy, Becton … *

———————————————————————-

JD’s off-season strategy is becoming clear to me.

1. Fine tune DL rotation and make more room for JJ & Clemons.  Move JFM inside full time, sign DT pass specialist Jefferson, look to add DT run specialist in Woods and/or via draft

2. Get faster at LB and improve TE coverage.  Trade for Chuck Clark + Draft

3. Continue to play more 2 deep zone + man, which is a better fit when you have elite corners.  (In 3 deep, you drop the 2 corners back).  Promote Tony Adams (former CB & elite RAS) + draft

4. Rebuild OL through Draft while adding a contingency replacement for Tomlinson.  Target versatile OT at #13 who can instantly upgrade LG (transitional year).  A guy like Skoronski.  Add top 3 draft class Center at #42/43.

2023 OL:  LT Brown, LG Skoronski, Center FA or #42/43, RG AVT, RT Becton or Mitchell

2024 OL Scenario A:  LT Becton, LG FA or Draft, Center  #42/43, RG AVT, RT Skoronski

2024 OL Scenario B:  LT Becton, LG Skoronski, Center  #42/43, RG AVT, RT Mitchell

2024 OL Scenario C:: LT Skoronski, LG FA or Draft, Center #42/43, RG AVT, RT Mitchell

It's sad that I don't think this is a joke because it's incredibly true

Then why is everyone and their mother plugging in a OT at 13th overall pick? Is it because a smart team would operate like Becton doesn't exist because he hasn't played in 2 years? is it because Brown is old as sh*t and was hurt most of last year?
