Who are your Top 2 WRs in this year's draft and 1 sleeper?

Recommended Posts

To me, the Top 2 are Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Quentin Johnston with a big gap to #3, either Flowers or Addison

As a sleeper, I like Trey Palmer out of Nebraska - some are saying he won't even get drafted, which is shocking to me.  I also like Jalen Moreno-Cropper out of Fresno State - another player who might not get drafted, but I would take him in the 5th maybe, 6th for sure

I'd be happy if we got Johnathan Mingo or Marvin Mims.

Although Mingo is prob buds with Moore and AJ Brown and that crew, that's never good. But they do produce some good WR talent.

I also like Mingo a lot

Top: Jordan Addison and Zay Flowers

Sleeper: not sure if he's even a sleeper anymore but A.T. Perry.

Deep sleeper: Justin Shorter

Shorter is another good later round possibility.  He's a lot like Irvin Charles on the Jets now.

Tough call I think everyone pretty evenly matched.  Id say JSN and Addison but i could easily see Downs, Dell or Flowers have better years than him depending on where they go.  Dell is the best route runner in this draft IMO

I am only interested in those WR that can replace Hardman next year, so I'm thinking Houston's Tank Dell or  Cincinnati's Scott in the 3-4th round.

hard to say,  While yes those guys may be able to replace hardman Dell will be long gone before we take anyone.  Scott is an interesting option later as he has big speed.  Similar type of guy to hardman in terms of his gadget ability and return ability is Demario Douglas out of liberty.  Shifty and with 4.44 speed, but he's smalllll.  He'd be fine if youre looking for a return guy and maybe a gadget contributor, but if you want someone to come in and really contribute on offense right away it may not be him.

Sleeper?  Few guys I like, sneaky one is Jonathan Mingo out of Ole Miss.  Not an elite separator as either a deep threat or a route runner but at 6'1 220 running a 4.46 he's got a chance to be a good player that you can grab in rd 2 maybeee 3 but his name is heating up. Big bodied Ole Miss Wr's have done well for themselves in the league lately which i think helps push him up.

If you want a deeper sleeper?  I like Grant Dubose out of Charolette.  6'2 201 with a 4.57 40 but he's a really solid solid route runner and a beast over the middle. Knows how to set defenders up properly, and more importantly PLAYS like a big WR should.  He's a nice solid player that you can get probably in rd 4-5

What do you think of Mims?

I like him, i just dont necessarily consider him a sleeper.  He's been a really solid college player for a while, and someone thats name just has gotten burried in this kind of meh draft.  I think the best thing he has going for him is his speed.  He can high point and make some acrobatic catches too which is nice, and also good after the catch but more so because of his break away speed.  Thats someone that could be a long term replacement for hardman eventually, but honestly with who we have on the team unless we trade davis, i dont see these guys carving out a role here that we dont have already.  I think a guy like Mims even if we like him doesnt offer something different or better than other guys we have where as a guy like Mingo or Dubose offer that size and over the middle play that we wanted Davis to bring.

Mingo seems like he’s got some helium, I wouldn’t blink if he goes before Mims, so that’s why I asked. Totally agree Mims has kind of gotten buried, but as you said he was good in college - for a while - and is fast so it’s a little odd.

I think they’re going to go after a receiver, could be day three though. Five on the roster this year but three free agents after the season, one of the easiest spots to fit a guy on the roster since they’ve carried six, and always good to add some juice.

Yea mingo is being ballooned up this week, could be a smoke screen but I do think based on recent talks he could go late rd 2.   Mims may be a rd 3 guy, his film is good so i dont think he'll drop too far, especially with a 4.3 40.  He's just on the smaller side 5'11 but only like 185 isnt the biggest guy so it depends what offense you want him to play in.  I just dont know if he'll be on the board late enough for us to take the kid.

id say probably a 3rd rounder, maybe a mid to late 3rd?  i could see us adding an upside type of guy but not until the 4th/5th probably.

Where do you have JSN ranked? 3rd?

Yea, JSN, T. Palmer and T Dell round out the 5.

Dell is the shiftiest mf'er in this class but he's just too small... Same guy at 5'11 180 -- he's #1 or 2. He's never lost at the LOS as far as i can tell.  @AFJF talked about JSN's elite footwork nimbleness off the line, Dell can do it all just as well, and has an outside element to his game lacking with Jaxon... but doesn't have JSN's size.

Dell is a guy I was hoping they'd target if there is no JSN.

Totally agree with your with your two top wideouts. And Trey Palmer with all that speed. But he is really not a sleeper. Now when I think of a sleeper,  it is someone that comes from a small school and most people do not know about. So my sleeper is a kid from the black colleges, and he popped into my notes watching him in an all star game. His name is Xavier Smith and he plays for Florida A&M. He is only 5'9"  and 175lbs, but he runs a 4.38 forty, and he catches everything.  And a fabulous athlete. He would be a real good slot receiver.

I want to come out of draft with one WR with an elite 3-cone (90th percentile plus).

Question, why can’t it be a RB with the same skillset?

I think a RB with those skills could be just as deadly or even more so.
