The Aaron Rodgers Decline

So an aging QB with a broken thumb had his worst statistical season..which would still rank as a top 5 QB season in Jets history?

I didn't realize the goal was to be good for a Jet QB.  Sure, I'm on board with that assessment.  But I'm continually told this is a legitimate Super Bowl contending team.

It's not.

You seem to be in the minority on this. The thought all last season was if the Jets had a solid NFL caliber QB they’d be contenders. Now they have one.

AFC is brutal, no doubt. But if we can compete with the Bills and Bengals of the world with Wilson, Flacco and White, we can certainly do better with Rodgers.. no?

As we all know Aaron Rodgers will be 40 this year - and most understand he had his worst year as a pro.

In the 15 years he's started 2008 to 2022.  He missed substantial time in 2013 (9 games played) and 2017 (7 games played) So we'll put those asides.

Here are some basic points worthy of noting...

  • Lowest total yards (in 17 games vs. 16 in the past)
  • Lowest Rating
  • Most INTs other than his first year as a starter - by A LOT (Almost more than the past three years combined)
  • ZERO 300 yard games (only year he's done that)
  • 2nd lowest total TD's (tied for 2nd lowest)

I'm sure there are plenty more concerns - as these are just basic stats from the chart below.

Now I hear a lot of excuses but the two main ones:

  • He had a band finger for 5 games
  • All he had at WR was a highly drafted rookie and Allen Lazard

Certainly you're all welcome to come to your own conclusions - but the most obvious and realistic one is Aaron Rodgers is getting old and it's showing in his game.  Once that starts to happen it almost always gets worse, fast.   I'm hoping Rodgers defy's the odds and returns to form, that would be amazing, but I do think there are legitimate reasons to be concerned.

How do you know it’s not? I don’t think anyone had the Bengals in the Super Bowl two years ago

The Jets have more talent on both sides of the ball than GB. Only Zach could screw that up.

all that us missing is beningo ranting that jd got fleeced and we are still clowns and kev getting arrested for showing up at jd’s house last night

The Jets definitely lost the negotiation. The Packers got a first and the Jets didn’t get any one and done protection.

He could be on a decline, but we need another data point (this season). We have no slope - no change over time. All we know is he had one relatively down year.

Btw, he didn’t have a bad finger “for 5 games,” he broke his finger in week 5. That’s a significant difference.

The only odds Rodgers has to “defy” are the ones in your head - the jets have the 6th best odds to win the SB - that’s not because Rodgers is expected to suck.

When the alternative was sucking and losing tons of actual football games? Hard to see how the Jets lost.
