Put Your Name on It - Who is the 1st Round Pick for the Jets tonight?

Recommended Posts

Ultimately, I don't think we take an OL who may not start at #15.  I think the line is set with Brown, Laken, McGovern, AVT, & Becton. I think Douglas looks to add to the OL depth/pipeline later in the draft (maybe a C in round 2 to supplant McGovern).  Same at WR.  I think JD made his big splash with Lazard.  A WR room of Wilson, Lazard, Davis, Hardman, and Mims is more than good enough to win.  I could see an exception if Douglas is looking to trade Davis during the draft to recoup some picks but if he's on the roster I don't see a WR in the first round.

If you look at our roster, the biggest holes are at DT (Solomon Thomas currently a starter next to Q), LB (though no one warrants a 1st round pick), and S.

So for me it comes down to Brian Branch and Myles Murphy (who I think can have inside/outside flexibility like JFM given his size.)

The pick is:

Myles Murphy DL, Clemson.  What say you???

This is a very thoughtful post, and I could see it happening.  DT is definitely the biggest critical hole on the roster, and the draft will be about filling holes.

I think the fact that this is such a tough question, and the fact that the Jets have a bunch of holes for a roster that wants to go to the Super Bowl, would lead me to a trade down.

Whomever the Jets pick in rounds 1-2 need to play alot.    I think its 50/50 we trade down.

I think and hope they would trade out of this pick and pick up a 2nd round pick. But if they keep the pick the pick has to be a tackle. And looking at this draft with the run of Quarterbacks, Paris Johnson or  Broderick Jones should be there. Pick the one that drops to you. Two out of the three top lineman will be gone. I think Skoronski will be the first one off the board.

Broderick Jones #1, Schmitz with #2. I’d like a trade down but I don’t think JD is going to do it. As for drafting two offensive lineman with first two picks. My favorite Jets draft was the year we did it drafting Brick and Mangold and that was probably the key to Jets success with Rex.

If WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba drop to #15, I think there is a good chance they select him.

If OT/OG Peter Skoronski drops to #15, I think there is a good chance they select him.  OT Paris Johnson Jr. as well.

None of the three will fall that far IMO.

There is a small chance JD would draft a Safety (lol), Brian Branch, but I doubt it.

I think the OT's will mostly be off the Board, JSN will be gone, JD won't value/want the Safety that high, and JD will thus make his first major 1st Round Trade down this year.

Probably into the 2nd round.

I am completely uneducated this years on prospects.  So, The Jets will run the clock down under 30 seconds trying to trade, then when they can't Lukas Van Ness.  Carl Lawson will then be traded for a 3rd round pick from Green Bay, which was pre agreed to if the player the Jets wanted was there. The Jets will trade Zach Wilson and our new third rounder and a 5th to Minnesotas first and will take John Michael Schmidts.

I do have an uncanny feeling about Van Ness though.

Kiper's final mock has the Jets taking

15. New York Jets (via GB)*

Peter Skoronski, OT/G, Northwestern

With Richardson off the board as a trade target for the Vikings, I'm going to stick to my original thinking for the Jets. Skoronski would make a ton of sense as a guard/tackle hybrid. I think he could be an All-Pro guard.

My bold prediction is the Jets draft Michael Mayers with Skoronski off the board.

They also move back in the 1st and take JSM.

Does JSM = John Michael Schmitz?  I'd be happy with that depending on the cost.  Moving up when you only have 5 picks this year and already only 5 picks left next year, including our 1st being gone, will be tough.

If they covet Schmitz I think they'd be more likely to move down, pick up another 2nd this year and maybe another next as well, and just take him at the end of the 1st.  If you really want a TE there should be a couple of good ones available in the 2nd, whether it's Musgrave, Laporta, maybe even Washington.  None on Mayer's level of being an absolute freak, but still guys who could be high-end weapons for Rodgers.  Plus in this scenario you should still have another 2nd leftover to add a DT or LB.

McShay's final mock has the Jets taking

15. New York Jets (from GB)

Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia

Despite moving back two spots in the Aaron Rodgers trade, the Jets can still get him one of the top three tackles as a much-needed boost to the protection. Jones was only a full-time starter for one season at Georgia, but he didn't allow a single sack in 15 starts in 2022. He has the size, length and quickness to solve the Jets' growing issues at tackle and keep their new 39-year-old quarterback upright.

If we trade down from 15 to the 2nd round, we better be getting a 1st next year.  That's a long way to drop, unless you're talking multiple trade downs.

yes, but you get the extra year of control. Sometimes you have to live for today.

We're not getting a #1 next year IMO.

Any picks we get back will be for 2023, primarily.

lol I'm not sure if you intended for this to be funny, but it got me a little bit.  Saying "live for today" in reference to having an extra year of control 5 years from now.
