Alka
We resigned McGovern as our center, but he is more than capable of playing right or left guard. He was the starting right guard in Denver for awhile before moving over to starting left guard for Denver. He became a center after that. I could see the Jets putting McGovern at right guard, and moving Vera Tucker to right tackle. I think it all comes down to how Becton performs, how Duane Brown performs, but I believe you now have some flexibility with the pick of Tippman. Any thoughts? 1 1
Kelly to Allen no huddle
They may put him at guard his first year. Center has a lot of responsibility for a rookie 1

Ghost
If he plays like he did in his rookie year, we have a helluva OL.
Barry McCockinner
I'd pencil in McGovern over Tomlinson unless he was playing injured last year. McGovern is a better guard than center.
Popular Post Warfish
I don't think we're in any position to start projecting our starting O-line with any level of certainty. Far, FAR too many questions till we get into camp and see how these guys actually look. 7 1

GreenFish
I think you let Mitchell, CMG, Brown, Becton, Laken and Tippman all compete. Then put the best 4 out there and fit AVT at either RG or RT. My guess would be Left to right: Becton, Laken, Tippman, McGovern, and AVT 4
extmenace
We know as well as anyone that you need depth along the OL. McGovern is cheap, maybe he earns a starting job but worst case we have a capable back up. We have a lot of guys that could be starters and the guys that wind up not being starters will be capable back ups. Should be some good competition in camp.

thshadow
Based just on salary, I'd guess the plan is for McGovern to be backing up all 3 IOL positions. (Obviously subject to how everyone looks in training camp.) But if I had to place a bet now - that would be my bet.

Untouchable
If you really want to put all 5 best starters out there, then yes. Absolutely. There are plenty of people who considered McGovern to be better at RG than C during his time in Denver. And Becton is beyond question mark status at this point while AVT looked GREAT at RT last year. The Jets already restructured Tomlinson, so he’s going to be here. Duane Brown, with his shoulder dangling by a thread, was still pulling 20+ yards downfield and putting dudes on their assh0les at nearly 40 years old. Brown Tomlinson Tippmann McGovern AVT That’s your starting OL if you want the best, most reliable players across the board. Becton can play swing tackle and 6th OL in goaline and short yardage situations for a year before he collects his money elsewhere and sends the Jets a future comp pick in the process.

That’s theoretically what they signed Schweitzer for (and he’s making more than McGovern, over two years too).

If you put McGovern at right guard, then you have as your tackles AVT, Becton and Duane Brown as your possible starting tackles, with Max Mitchell as one of your tackle backups. I think the question would be in that scenario, "Which 2 of the 3 tackles I just mentioned starts?" Is it Brown and AVT, or Becton and AVT? That would be the decision, if McGovern would be a starting guard.
Joe W. Namath
Brown would have retired if he was going to be on the bench. Brown is the starting LT. Becton will play RT. Vera Tucker is a guard. That is where he is playing. McGovern is the backup center unless he much better then tippman. 4
derp
I think the beefy offensive line depth, one way or another, is a sign that Alijah Vera-Tucker is the third tackle on this team. And depending on how things shake out, perhaps he’s the team’s starting LT in 2024.
