The freak in the middle of our offensive line

He has the physical traits of a tackle, the footwork, agility and hands of a guard and the intelligence of a center.

So, to recap…. We have AVT who can play RT, LT, RG, LG and a Center in Tippmann who can play RT and the RG, LG position in a pinch. Cedric Ogbuehi has manned both OT positions in spot duty.

I like the flexibility of this unit. A development OT on Day 3 and we should be good to go. The PS OL players do not impress. Time to add new blood.

As a Badger fan who followed him since he was being recruited out of H.S. In Indiana , allow me to suggest he was always thought of as an RT type, who somehow matriculated over to Center early on in his Badger career , that being said, never viewed him as a true LT prospect, more of a mauler type RT/ guard who was moved to center due to need.

This is great info thx

Yeah I watched a couple full games of his where you definitely get a diff perspective than the highlight reels however with new NFL coaching and Jets new OL coach in particular he can improve on the things pointed out here.  The way Saleh was talking in his presser definitely sounds like he will be starting.

Not very strong film.  May develop but doesn't look like a day 1 starter.  Hands wide, leaning, etc are problems in the pro's that don't show up against college competition.  Still, a monster when his mechanics are right.

you would hope they took all that into consideration before drafting him soooo.  I dont think they drafted him in 2nd not to start.

He is awfully tall for a center. Could he have leverage issues?

(I’m really tired of leverage issues)

I wonder about that, too.  OTOH, if he struggles with that, he probably could slide over to G or RT and still be very useful. The Jets have a lot of guys on the OL right now who are injury concerns.

He certainly has the size and mobility to play OT, but maybe not the arm length that the NFL is obsessed with.  Perhaps the Jets see him as a supersub all along the line at the worst.

He seems to have great mobility for a C.  Reminds me of Kevin Mawae in that regard.

Playing games is easier than tackle cause of who you are blocking but as far as center compared to tackle or gaurd I don't really ever remember anyone switching those spots. Not saying it is not possible people convert when playing NFL to a diff position all the time. But it doesn't mean this guy is he could be playing cent for us and McGovern sliding over left or right. This should be answered probably first day of camp

It’s why I get frustrated with Douglas though. He always has to go with the “look at what I just did” pick. If you need a center just take Schmidz and be done with it.

Instead he goes to the Gmen (who are killing this draft. They’ve selected 3 guys who were mocked as potential 1st round picks.)

Maybe a few years ago this would be a concern, but given how athletic he is, and how “big” Centers are starting become a trend, I’m not concerned.  Honestly, I think the average height of Ts, Gs, and Cs, is going to drastically rise over the next few years.

On that note, it will be interesting to see how that is going to affect smaller QBs over the next few years.

Andres James played Lt and Rt in college at ucla , and is the starting center for the raiders .
