JD playing chess?!

Don’t know if I’m overthinking- or JD is also masterfully planning- getting athletes and hoping to replace big money contract

McDonald in the first round- can replace big contract Lawson next year

Carter Warren- if he’s what the jets expect- can replace big money Duane Brown

JBG or Trey Dean- supposed to be atheletic and good safeties- can replace big money Whitehead if either pan out.

Zaire, and if we can hit on any of 3 UDFAs, May be able to replace big money Moseley

Brownlee or a ton of UDFA WRs to replace Corey Davis

PAY QUINNEN.

thoughts?

He tried to do this his first draft. Zuniga for Jenkins, Davis for Maye, Clark for Lewis, could even say Mims for Perriman, long-term backup roles for Perine and Morgan.

Hope last year was an indication he’s gotten better at drafting and he did get away from this approach the last couple drafts, but I think it only feels new because it didn’t work at all last time he tried it.

Last year he hit on Garret WIlson, Sauce Gardner, and Breece Hall my mailman Larry could have picked those players he's had an up and down draft record so far this draft is a big one some of these guys need to hit.

I still think a lot of people forget that his first draft ever as a GM was a covid year. College pro days were cancelled, as were private workouts. A first time GM in his first year had to navigate a draft with half the events cancelled that help determine best fits.

I do not think it was a coincidence that as soon as things went back to normal, the results got progressively better and he seems to now be hitting his stride

I didn’t forget, I don’t think it’s relevant to the idea that drafting this way isn’t new for Douglas. The point wasn’t that this draft won’t work out because it didn’t work out last time, but simply that if it seems new then  folks probably don’t remember him doing it before because nobody saw any results from it.

I think there was more pushback on those picks at the time that we remember in retrospect…but I agree it’s a little up in the air - that’s why I used hope in the post. I don’t think we know he’s improved. If this is a good draft I’ll be cautiously optimistic he’s turned a corner.

There was debate on what positions should be taken but all the players he hit on were blue chippers and stars in college.....I'm not killing JD he has done a solid job overall but his draft record has been OK at best....20 was terrible, 21 was OK even tho he took Wilson, and last year was great.... this year is big.

Looks like the Texans didn’t draft Gardner, I guess their mailman told him to pick Stingley at three… What a friggin, lame take,

Plus he did not have his scouts. Was relying on Gase’s staff and scouts

Oh man here comes the fairytale. Oh it was so easy to see it coming huh. Funny how we ended up with them and other nfl teams couldnt see it. I mean you and your mailman are smarter than nfl gm that get paid to do it. Hell woody should give you a call and schedule some consultation. Do you think you will have some time available in your im sure very booked sched?

Give me a break.

Also wants joes first draft with mac's scouts? Did I make that up?maybe who knows. I wish this guy mailman Larry was here to help me figure it out

Oh here is the back pedal.

I was wondering where it would be.

Man all the hits were highly ranked players that were stars in college? You don't say man you think other teams would pick up on that and people would draft them first right? Jesus Christ keep digging that whole. It's so ridiculous what you are saying. Yeah bud every first round pick is a stud blue chipper thats that they got picked Sherlock .

Anyway whatever it's late and just an annoying take.

Don't forget zaniga was a bonafide first rounder!!! That literally was sold on draft night and by other reporters.

He’s a stick and pick BPA kinda guy early , then it’s move around in the later rounds to fill needs and then look for special teamers and projects late.

that’s what a lot of successful teams do, we’re just not used to it

Oh yeah cuz no one had McDonald falling to us at 15 right? BPA my @$$. JD was a deer in headlights. Had no clue wtf he had to do when Brod was stolen from his precious 15th pick. He also screwed up the AR trade and caved like a desperate wh*re.

McDonald is a third down LB at best at his current frame. don’t fool yourself thinking he’s the next DROY. Could’ve had him at the end of the first round had he wanted to. BPA lol.

You think he had other players rated ahead of 4 but took him because he was totally unprepared for the board falling the way it did like he never ran a “nightmare scenario “ to determine who to pick ?

what exactly is this based on?

Saleh said to the kid “we’re getting you out of the 4I and putting you into the wide 9”

they not only were prepared to take him, they already have a plan for him.

other than that, solid take bro

Kids drafted this year all seem to have high football character and all played a lot of games. Zuniga was always hurt and one conversation with Davis you could tell he was a stoner. Mims was spacey too.
