OtherwiseHappyinLife
An attempt at go forward objectivity … 1. A motivated franchise QB whose pending contract implies 2-3 years in green at what should be no more than fair market value in aggregate 2. A core group of excellent to elite young players whose arrow is pointing up. Most will be on a below market rookie or free agent contract for (x more years) Offense: Garrett (3-4), Breece (3), AVT (2-3) Defense: Quinnen (1), Sauce (3-4), DJ (2) 3. A promising secondary tier of established, developing .. & high potential players Offense: Becton, Tippmann Defense: JFM, JJ, Huff, Carter II, McDonald 4. Quality depth Offense: TE, RB, OL Defense: DL, CB, SS 5. Good shape on the salary cap Yes, we’ll take some hits here and there (Zach, Berrios, Martin, possibly Tomlinson/Uzomah next year). But relatively light and more than offset by #2 above. Overall, Joe should have some dry powder to surgically improve the roster over this time period and lessen the impact of (most likely) losing a first rounder in 2024. —————————————————————- Are there areas of weakness/concern? Of course.. 1. Back-up QB 2. Run stuffing DT. I’d expect to sign a vet like Al Woods 3. Age & Health at OT. We need Brown to stay healthy & hit big on 1 of Becton or Mitchell 4. Starting Free Safety. They seem to be betting on Tony Adams 5. Proven depth at Linebacker. Kwon is still available 6. Left Guard. Tomlinson was bad last year; Jets now have some contingencies 7. WR2. Can Davis stay healthy, get open consistently and improve his overall play? 8. RB1. How fast can Breece fully recover? IMO, the positives above are critical to a playoff football team. Every team has weaknesses and question marks. Will the Jets strengths be enough to mask their weaknesses? Can we get lucky with health? At least there are real reasons to be hopeful & excited.
