Saleh on Corey Davis

Recommended Posts

The Jets are all in 2023.   Corey Davis is not a responsible cap spend for a team that is trying to be sustainably competitive.

Basically, what they agree to pay Rodgers this year will be whatever they have left in cap space.  As of now, he gets is $110mm next year.

Gets a lot of hate for someone who never had a QB.

He can't stay healthy and he has too many drive killing drops.  He's alright but definitely not the number #1 they thought they were getting.

Corey Davis was a high number 1 draft pick  and is a solid professional wr and a great blocker for our running game.   He had over 1000 yds the season before we signed him. He just needs to stay healthy.

For 12 million a year in this wr market he is a value, not a liability.   We just paid Lazard 11 million a year and he had 600 yds receiving last year with Rodgers.

I was supportive of the initial signing, but he has not be worth what he has been paid the last two seasons.

The Jets are taking a flyer that he can achieve his potential as you describe this season.  I think he does.

I think JD and I both believe that NFL players are exceedingly motivated by money.  Contract years tend to produce magical performances.  I think as a general matter, James Farrior excepted, you let them go after the have a better than recent average contract year.

I was never under the impression he was a WR1 even when he signed and his contract also doesn’t even suggest he is one so I think that point is overstated.

He got his contract bc the year before he had a great year playing as WR2 to AJ Browns WR1. And he was catching passes from a very efficient QB in Tannehill, not to mention a great running game.

we didn’t have that team when he arrived but we have that type of environment around him now if not better actually. So I don’t see why he can’t be a 1000yd receiver this year and break out.

he’s still liable for a drop here or there like Brandon Marshall was  but I think he’s going to be a 1000yd receiver at least.

it’s in all our interest that he is so that’s what I’m rootin for.

"He's going to be on this team, yeah"

Said it just now

I think this is great news.

Now it’s up to Davis.  Rodgers will not deal with the dropsies or miscommunication if that stuff continues he won’t be trusted.

If he can get on the same page and get chemistry and trust with Rodgers watch out.

Not hate.  With Rodgers, we have a horrendous cap hit down the road.  Corey Davis is a luxury as the 3rd wideout.  He is a very strong run blocker on the edge but his tenure has been marred by injury and key drops in big spots.

Luxury or not, I would like to keep Davis.  Imagine when we go 5 wide.  That's a defenses nightmare.

The fact that they went all in on this year and are relying on contributions from people like Corey Davis and Becton is beyond negligence. Douglas f'ed this off season so badly.

Becton is not slated to be a starter, Brown and Mitchell are penciled.

Daves is the 4th WR

so where exactly are the Jets “counting” on ether?

If he didnt perform well because he was out of shape id agree with you.  But injuries happen even in contract years.

To your point, Becton showed up in great shape and thin.  Did he finally figure it out or did a new contract motivate him?  IDK but I guess time will tell.

This is why I’ve decided to save all and any commentary of WR before I see them play with an actual NFL QB. Been kinda numb since yesterday when @Sarge4Tide Freed Denzel! I know it’s the right thing but little bit died inside me. I wanted to see him suck with Rodgers  first, so I could be sure.

no.......Mitchell is NOT penciled as a starter. You better believe Becton is the assumed 1 until he breaks another knee or chokes on a krispy kreme

People talk about his drops but his stats dont indicate that he drops a lot of passes.  3.2 per cent drop rate in 2022.

And if you look at the accuracy number, it shows the passes to him were well below NFL average accuracy.

Good thoughts ..  I would add it would be hard to judge Jerry Rice with Zach Wilson throwing him the ball..

His ability to stay healthy is my biggest concern.

He hasn't been able to stay on the field.  He's a big target, gets open and blocks well.  Drops passes he should catch but over all he's probably better than Lazard and if healthy a decent two.   The if healthy is a big deal.  For a big framed WR he gets dinged up a lot and misses a lot of games.
