Pats “optimistic” they’ll reach an agreement with DHop

5 years ago I would’ve cared…

Not sure why anyone would be remotely intimidated by Hopkins on the wrong side of 30 catching passes from Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe.

I am not intimidated. This is a guy I think would really improve the Jets WR corps and give us a better chance at a super bowl. I would much rather the Jets grab him than have him go improve a division rival.

Signing him so he doesn’t go to another team in the division isn’t a meaningful factor to me.

I think he’d be a good fit here as the WR2 but if it isn’t a strong enough mutual interest I don’t care much where he ends up.

Sounds like he wants to go somewhere he can be the WR1.  He should care more about quality targets over quantity but he seemingly doesn’t.

I thought he would only sign with a contender. The Pats are not even close at this point.

Probably coming to the realization that after an injury plagued year, a year that included a PED suspension and reportedly asking for 18 million that all the contenders are saying, "nah we are good".

DHOP makes the Patriots better.  Their WRs are good.  DHOP as the 1 pushes everyone down to their more natural spot.

An engaged DHOP improves the Patriots.

The market must be really dry. He’s made plenty of money. Not sure why he’d want to go to a situation where the QB is the worst in the division. Only thing I can think of is that the pats are playing the role the jets normally play. The role of the team that is being used as leverage, to get the team he really wants to go to pay up?

So let me get this straight, Hopkins didn't want to come to the Jets with Rodgers but he'll

go to NE with Jones???  That shows me he's pretty stupid, good riddance

I don't think it's that he didn't want to come to the Jets. I don't think JD showed any interest in bringing in a 31 year old receiver who wants to be paid as if he is 27.

JetNation tells me this would be good news for the Jets.

Hopkins never said he didn't want to come to the Jets.  Just because people keep saying it doesn't make it true.

He made a strange face when asked about the Jets and a number of teams (which was BEFORE the Rodgers trade happened)

The reality is the Jets are happy with one good offensive weapon and managing the team for long term cap sustainability..

Isn't it kind of a Rodgers thing that he likes whipping the ball to his #1 receiver more than most QB's? Like to see another guy but I'm hoping actually having an NFL QB might make the receivers seem more like offensive weapons than dull scissors.

I mean maybe.  But having good players is better than having bad players.  Do the Jets win more games with Hopkins than Davis - are they a bigger threat?  I would say absolutely.

Or maybe not enough passes to go around? But, you are likely closer to right.
