Pats sign Veteran WR - 3 Years - 33 Million

Recommended Posts

The fact that this JAG got 3 years 33 Million (14 mil guaranteed!), is pretty crazy. His best year being 4 years ago and his average of 500-600 yds per season and 3.5 TDS per season deserves this type of contract for a 30 year old WR, makes you wonder what Deandre Hopkins will get. Obviously being a much better player.

NE: Juju Smith-Schuster, Davante Parker, Rhamondre Stevenson = big and slow

Miami: Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Braxton Berrios, Mostert & Devon Archane = tiny and lightening fast

————-

BUF: balanced with nod to passing game

NYJ: balanced with nod to running game

**Interesting roster constructs in the same division.

NE has Tyquon Thorton at wr who ran a 4.28.  The 2nd year player is going to play a huge role for them this year.

With Bill Obrien as OC, the Pats are going to be trouble and will win 10 plus games this year.

Allen Lazard money. Parker, a former first rounder, has had the more distinguished career, but the big difference is that he’s 3 years older at 30. Be interesting to see how it’s structured, as he was already under contract for this season. Is this a three year extension for a player who’ll be 31 when it starts? $14M guaranteed sounds like a lot for him.

Not with Aaron as the QB.

JAG?  No.  Guy that cannot stay on the field?  Yes.

Yes, it says 14 million, but what is the real money?  He was a candidate to be cut as he had no cap hit.  Especially if they are able to sign D-Hop.

The Patriots probably threw some guaranteed his way to keep him happy.  Especially with JuJu nursing a knee injury.

Remind the readers when he was drafted and how many receptions he had last year.

Fun fact: guess how many Jets WRs averaged more yards per reception last year than ol’ lightning-in-a-bottle.

(answer: all of them)

People here complain about Davis, but Parker and Davis have virtually identical careers - annual rates of 45 catches, 650 yards, 3 TDs.  The difference is that Davis is younger, can run block,  and is in the last year of a contract.  Edge Jets.  The Pats signing a 30 year old band aid boy (often injured) to a three year deal for this amount of money is pretty difficult to understand.

And if this is the receiver market, stay far away from Hopkins .  With Parker getting this deal and OBJ getting $15 million, Hopkins is going to be ridiculously overpriced.

You're right.  No player can struggle adjusting to the nfl game and drastically improve year 2.

On the contrary.  If this is the receiver market we should have jumped on Hopkins.

I would think the Jets wou;dl have kicked the tires.

He went from 'only' playing with Mahomes to Mac and Tannehill.  Either he is asking too much or there might be another issue.  Attitude?  health?

Is it really a 3 year deal though? or is it really just a 1 year deal and he can be cut next year? We should know by now that there is the announced contract and the real contract. I'd put my money on the Pats being able to cut him next offseason with little to no issues with the cap if he doesn't perform. The pats need him this year.

$14M guaranteed.  Having that be for one year is not something the Pats would be celebrating.

Ohhh, I thought you said he was the reason they were going to have a great year, and that he was going to play a huge role, based… on a 40 time.

Shoulda guessed you were just pulling crap out of your butt. Per usual.  Carry on……………………….

Cut him and give him 14 million + guaranteed ? I don’t think so.

Explain how they “get better” by giving more money to a guy that was on the team last year.

Guys, clearly the Pats are #Allin and the Jets not overpaying an oft-injured, aging "deep threat" receiver means he isn't.
