AFC East: Who has the best top 10 players in your opinion?

Recommended Posts

The teams that tend to go the farthest do so with the most elite talent, which makes everyone around them better and helps cover up team weaknesses.  Just check out the last few Super Bowls.  Most of us would agree that an elite QB has the biggest impact but it obviously doesn't stop there.

So if we are to win our first Division title since President George Bush Jr sat in office, we likely need to win here.  In your opinion, how do the Jets stack up?

Jets:  QB Rodgers (39), CB Sauce (22), DT Quinnen (25), WR Garrett (22), G/T AVT (24), RB Breece (22), CB DJ Reed (26), CB Carter II (24), DT JFM (26), TE Conklin (28)

Bills:  QB Allen (27), Diggs (29), S Poyer (32), S Hyde (32), Edge Von Miller (34), LB Milano (29), LT Dawkins (29), Edge Rousseau (23), Edge Floyd (31), TE Knox (27)

Dolphins:  QB Tua (25), WR Hill (29), WR Waddle (24), CB Ramsey (29), LT Armstead (32), DE Wilkins (27), Edge Philips (24), C Williams (26), Edge Chubb (27), RB Mostert (31),

Patriots:  QB Jones (25), Edge Judon (31), G Onwenu (25), RB Stevenson (25), Edge Uche (25), LB Bentley (27), S Dugger (27), Edge Wise (29), C Andrews (31), TE Henry (28)

I agree in principle.  It is the Bills division until someone wins it from them.

I think the Patriots have less questions in their Top 10.

Jets:  I think Rodgers is going to kill it.  Even if he is 'meh' he will be better than what you had last year.  Will Breece be Breece this year?

Bills:  After the top two, a few players with 3s starting their age.

Phins:  Will go as far as Tua is able to play.  Plus will Ramsey bounce back?

The Patriots biggest addition is Billy O as OC.  Their questions in that list, Mac and Hunter Henry, will be the biggest beneficiaries as they look closer to what they were in 2021 than last year's abortion of an offense.

Last season the jets nearly swept the division. Not that their record was close but each game was a battle and could easily have gone the jets way.  It’s all how they can play as a team in these games. They have an excellent chance of sweeping especially if their edge guys can take advantage of the secondary play. IMO none of those QBs are scary good as passers. Allen is really good outside of the pocket and Tua can use his legs and has tyreek and waddle.  On the patsies, jones isn’t running away from anyone. If their short game is stifled they’re toast.

Maybe I’m wearing green tinted glasses but this season they have a really good shot of taking the division.

Saleh got outcoached by Billicek twice.

Did he?

I don't know, he had them ready to blow NE out before Zach started turning the ball over in the first game. Zach was then basically non-competitive in the second game. The punt return TD at the end of the Pats game was inexcusable, though

Lawson > Conklin

It’s pretty close between Bills/Jets/Fins.

This was my first thought, too.

Also, I’m looking forward to seeing Ruckert make his case for some significant field time this year. He had his red shirt year, and he was an alleged stand out at the OTAs. I think Conklin (and every receiver) will have a much better year with Rodgers throwing it, but I think it’s worth noting that unlike this year, next year neither Conklin nor Uzomah have any guaranteed money coming. You have to assume the Jets would like to see Ruckert move up the depth chart this year.

I get the Bills sentiment but the Jets roster has gotten better quickly and now they have a legit QB.

The one thing that jumps off Buffalo’s page is their age. 4 players in their 30s, 2 of whom missed a large chunk of last season.  3 others at 29.  The QB will likely keep them consistently good but their title window might shut in a hurry.

The Jets stand out as the youngest team (Rodgers aside) and performance analytics tell us most players should get better as they reach their peak (25-27 at most positions outside QB).

The Dolphins and Pats top end is more balanced using age with the Dolphins having a high octane offense and the Pats having an underrated / stingy D.

All three competitors on paper are better at Edge but that’s where the Jets investments might start paying off.

Outside of Edge, the Pats are strongest at the non premium positions while the Dolphins and Jets are strongest at the premium NFL positions:  QB, WR, CB, Pass Rushers.  Even a guy like AVT is more than just a guard while Breece at RB is a multi dimensional home run threat.

This is the first time in many years I like where the Jets stand.

You never hear the football media discuss it but that Bills core outside of Josh Allen and Greg Rousseau is really starting to age out.

Looking at high-end talent and age, the Jets and Dolphins pretty clearly have the best cores of players moving forward IMO. Allen will still be around but the Bills are going to have to retool that roster around him sooner rather than later.

I’ll bet the outcoaching flips the other way with good QB play, rushing attach and defensive play.

Hopefully but Saleh has shown little that he is a top HC as of now.  Most impressive to me was benching Zach. I still think deep down he is not the coach to take a team deep.  The sacrifice is too deep and he is not like a Parcells etc that sacrifice personally.

I think you can add Kuntz to the list of inexpensive players Jets are hoping to develop.

With AR contract peaking next season, TE, LB, Edge & OL will be the areas Jets will look to get financial relief.

I wonder how the Mosley contract discussions are going?

I fail to see how he shown little.  He has his team playing hard, clock management is fine, when we K or go for 2 has been fine.  players want to play for him, those on the roster or from other teams.  He isn’t a lock but he’s shown potential.
Let’s see what he does with a talented team.

That's fair....  but I say the same of REX.  Doesn't, IMO, have what it takes to take a team through the final stretch.

3-3 until a punt returned for a TD.  Every win isn’t a game your HC outcoached someone.  You could easily make the case that with a roster of kids, injuries all through the roster and nothing a QB, Belichick shouldn’t have been in a 3-3 game with less than 20 seconds left.

Let me say, every HC makes controversial choices during games.  Doesn’t mean he can’t coach.  I’ve seen everyone from Parcells, to Shula, to Belichick etc. make head scratching moves

Rex had too though.  When to go for two shouldn’t be hard.  Or how to manage the 2 min drives.  Winning mostly comes from the talent to make it though to the final stretch IMO

Our top 7 is elite.  8-9 are very good.  10 is my own anticipation that Conklin can be top 5 among TEs in catches with Aaron Rodgers.  Plus he’s a good blocker.

No team has ALL elite players across its top 10 players.  Our cutoff is #7 since DJ Reed is arguably the best #2 CB in the League.

7 elite/borderline elite players and 6 of them were JD acquisitions.

Not too shabby.

What does that say about our HC?

Nothing at all...he has been a HC for 2 years...Belicheck has been a HC for over 20, AR has been playing winning offensive football for 18 years. AR has a hell of a lot more experience in winning offenses than the HC at this time.

Its not the first time this has ever happened.
