Also reported on multiple contracts being negotiated for pay cuts.

Aren’t many contracts left that bring large savings. CJ, Corey Davis. Maybe Becton gets a new team friendly contract and saves us $4m. Ashtyn Davis  maybe $500,000 savings

Mosley 100% has to take a major pay cut before he takes a single practice snap, or be cut, otherwise JD is a complete moron.  He's the most overpaid player in the NFL, and that's where the largest sum of space needs to come from.

Considering Becton's contract is fully guaranteed and the Jets just declined his 5th year option, he has zero motivation to renegotiate.  Ashtyn Davis could be a different story, but who knows what the deal is there considering how much the team has seemingly continued to be infatuated with him, despite him rarely ever getting onto the field.  Safety is hardly a position of strength, so he strangely enough might have more leverage.  The most they could possibly even save with him is $2M if outright cutting him and replacing him with someone playing for the rookie minimum, so it won't do much for Rodgers' deal.

Corey Davis probably largely depends on what direction they're leaning towards between the options that have all been floated around regularly varying between letting him play out his contract (in which case a pay cut should definitely happen) vs trying to trade him vs possibly cutting him.  Regardless, he shouldn't be getting paid the full amount by the Jets this year.

Well, if you remember Jordan Love would have had his $ guaranteed this year and had his 5th year declined but signed a 1 yr. extension.

Becton hasn’t played in 2 years… a bridge extension might be beneficial to both sides.

Fair point, hadn't even considered that, although not sure the Jets have the motivation to make that move yet, considering it'd have to include at least some additional guarantees next year to make it meaningful to Becton.

Mims may get cut or traded before he even steps on the field.  Him getting injured and us stuck paying his full salary if injured is a risk i dont see JD taking.   JFM, while i want him on the team is also vastly overpaid and another candidate for restructuring.

With only Rookie Deals for our QBs (Sanchez, Geno, Sam, Zack) we've only watched from afar as other teams/GMs allocated a sh*t TON of cap space to one player. We saw how the SeaHawks imploded the minute their rookie deals came due.

JoeD has done pretty well stocking our team with the full cap available and drafting at least once near the top of every round. It will be a whole nother ballgame starting now. I realized we were fine with all those high draft picks since our QB was getting paid peanuts, and no one thought at the time we'd be laying out $120M to one guy over 2 seasons (this soon).

JoeD will REALLY earn his stripes going forward. Little to no cap, drafting low every round, etc. Some teams like the Chiefs and Pats figure it out. Many don't.

Man. Quinnen, Becton, (Zack?), AVT, soon followed by Sauce, Garrett, Breece, and one or two of our young pass rushers. Yikes! Not sure we'll recognize our own team in 3 or 4 years.

Our next 2 seasons with AR under center are more or less set, but after that all hell breaks lose.

How much faith do you have in JoeD to navigate those waters and keeping the Jets at or very near the top for the next decade?

Just cut Davis and get $10 alone. Can find a big guy that is mistake prone and can’t stay on the field for way less.
trade him otherwise.

Joe Douglas might have actually lucked out by not having to pay big extensions in the near future to his own 1st rounder busts (Becton and Wilson) while saving money for the 2022 draft class. This will also ease contract extensions for Rodgers, Mike Maccagnan's gem and other foreseeable players such as Garrett Wilson and Sauce.

Reminds me of a few years ago when someone said it was actually good that Darnold stinks because he will be cheap to extend lol.

I remember arguing with that one Packers troll on here who was claiming the Packers were very high on Love and were guaranteed to pick up his option. That never made  much sense to me.

*on defense

He’s also a core special teamer, on the field for over 60% of ST snaps. Second only to Hardee. I don’t think it’s infatuation, I think he has a useful role that goes unnoticed. There’s a little room for negotiation there, though.

Unfortunately, he's fully guaranteed this year, plus JD already added 3 void years onto the end of the deal to spread out the hit, so nothing they can really do.  This year they're stuck with him, but next year he's all but guaranteed to be cut.

He’s got a bullseye on his back no doubt. I think that’s a last resort but definitely possible

That's a good point and probably reason enough to keep him around this year.  Still the most they could even squeeze out of him would be about $1.5M if he negotiated all the way down to his minimum salary, which honestly he probably has little motivation to go that far unless there's really no interest him at all throughout the league.

Who cares about paying him his salary?  We only care about the cap.  He is at $1.75M.  If we cut him we only save $1.3M and the top 51 are at $1.01M.  Does anybody really give a sh*t about those kind of ticky tack cap savings?  If there is even the slightest chance he makes the squad it is worth it to keep him around.

Dont agree with u.  Any idea why Mims was a no show at so many of the OTA's ?    My post also was about savings on JFM......any input from you on that ?

This has always been expected. To make the trade happen with the cap the Jets deferred all of Rodgers money to 2024 but with camp around the corner they have to come to some resolution.  The pay cuts likely have to happen for the Jets to deal with some of the salary cap fallout and to make room in the budget for a Williams extension as the Jets are already on the high end of their normal spending patterns. Why the Jets wait so long on some of these moves is anyone's guess. There is some logic in trying to force through a pay cut in the summer but it leaves such a bad taste around the league with the team when most do this stuff in free agency or right after the draft.
