Miami Dolphins

Do you view them as better, worse or an equal team to the Jets?

If we roll with the pre conceived notion that the Pats are the 4th most talented team in the East and the Bills are the established ones that must be dethroned, that leaves Miami.

I’ve noticed more so than any other fanbase this offseason they’ve been chirping at the Jets relentlessly on social media and visiting their boards there’s an overwhelming sense of confidence that they’re EASILY better than NYJ. They have talent, that’s undeniable. Fangio should elevate their defense. But there has to be a huge question mark surrounding Tuas availability? The pats of the last 20 years have made some forget that this is undeniably the Jets biggest historical rival, and we could very well see this fully revived in 2023. So what’s your opinion of how we stack up to them roster for roster?

Waddle and Tyreek are better than Garrett and Corey/Lazard (but not by much). That's about it. I'll take our QB, Dline, Secondary, and RB over there's, even if they get Cook. 2nd half of the season are when teams get hot and make a run, and Breece will be 99.9% by then.

Edge: Jets

I believe the Dolphins and the Jets will fight it out for the division.

The Bills have gotten old. 4 of their top 10 players are over 30; 3 including Diggs are 29.

Jets

Biggest ?  Rodgers age, Breece’s health

Upside:  Young core who should get better

Dolphins

Biggest ?  Tua’s health, Howard/Ramsey’s age

Upside:  A few young studs (guard, edge)

Edge:  Jets and the logic is pretty simple.

1. Tua’s health is a bigger impact risk than Breece’s

2. I’ll bet on a 39 year old Rodgers still playing well at QB over 2 Miami cornerbacks who have shown CLEAR signs of decline at a position based highly on athleticism

3. We have a younger, more dominant core with a potential 2nd wave incoming (JJ, Huff, Clemons, Ruckert)

4. I didn’t forget about the OLs.  I have them at even with the Dolphins hit or miss and the Jets with better depth but currently more question marks

The jets need to worry about the jets. This is the first time in a long time where they won’t be able to sneak up on people. They’re going to have play the full 60 minutes and make the plays that count.  Saleh and his staff are going to have their work cut out for them.  Lucky milfy isn’t there to screw things up.

The under-the-radar problem (that might be the biggest) is them acquiring Vic Fangio to coach an already talented defense that made a few very good additions.

They’re going to give teams fits, Tua or not.

Not just fangio, I think mcdaniel is vastly better than hackett.

I'll say one thing, if the pats are not dead last in the afc east this year by a lot Bellichick truly is a total genius.

And just our luck, when the pats have finally fallen off the cliff both Miami and Buffalo decide to get good.

The have a great D coordinator but it wont matter cause the qb's head will bounce off the turf by week 3 and he will be out for the year.

The pats are the team to worry about.  With Bill Obrien running the offense, they are going to be a dangerous team.

Mac Jones is pure sh*t

Good thought.  I think that’s certainly the case on paper.  The problem I see with the Dolphins is the 2 aging CBs and Bradley Chubb, who is quite possibly the most inconsistent Edge in the league.

Both CBs are gamblers and Howard has been more bust than boom the past 2 years.  Ramsey joined him last year in letting a number of touchdowns and big plays.  The slope is slippery and Rodgers is a savvy vet who might make them pay head to head.

Now to Chubb.  Started his career with 12 sacks, then 1 in an injury shortened year (tracking to 4 sacks), then 7.5, then 0 in 7 games (another injury year), then 8.

I do like Wilkins and Phillips a lot.

What are you saying? You don’t think he can step in and play well for a game or two before he gets broken?

I think he can play great. Durability is the issue and even though the sample size isn’t enough, it’s pointing towards made of glass/doesn’t avoid hits and reckless.

Both are behind Buffalo but the Jets have the edge over the Dolphins simply because of Rodgers. Injuries aside, Tua just hasn't done nearly enough for me to view the Dolphins as a favorite in a matchup against the Jets with Rodgers.

For me, with how close these teams are matched up otherwise, it will come down to QB play.

This is brought up ad nauseum but the only other x-factor will be the o-line. Every team in this division has a good o-line except the Jets. If guys like Tomlinson and Becton and even Tippman can elevate their play, then Jets will match up really well against all the AFCE teams.

I think if there is a gap .. it's pretty damn small. Miami had a better head coach. Blazing speed on O.

Yes, but that OL is going to get their concussion-prone QB murdered

Too harsh.  Mac is boring, not sh*t.

I suspect rookie Mac is more likely the "real" one. -- a competent, plus game manager. Guy got dealt a turd sandwich last year. Still don't know what Belichick was thinking.
