I’d ban you. You have no idea how forums work. I’m sure max is happy with the threads and posts.

Boy, you are an angry one & are triggered easily. I’m done… sorry to ruin your day with a couple of non-political posts regarding a former politician.

The encouraging part with JJ is that he doesn’t have great bend, but hearing about his new improvement in explosiveness he could really come on as a player. He’s already very good against the run. Could turn into a very good complete player

This guy played like 20 percent of stats but was the most effective pass rusher in the league on that basis. Big things going to happen for him if he gets more playing time. We never heard about his as much aside for his big plays but they were only few and far between becat he was not able to get on the Field

I said nothing political. What political issue did I address? A meme of a former political figure and how the media portrayed his orange hair and tan was it.

Your hatred is the only thing that escalated this. You need to breathe.

The Jets didn’t trade up to draft JJ in round 1 for run defense alone.  They think he has upside as a pass rusher.

The reality last year .. Johnson was roughly average as a pass rusher because he was slow off the snap.  As in a good amount below league average.  His highest score was pressure rate on true pass sets, where he ranked in the 55-60 percentile which indicates he’s relatively more effective when he can pin his ears back.

Going into 2023, there is reason for optimism.  Earlier camp reports noted he looked a lot faster off the ball.  If that’s true, then his strengths will come to life which is getting those long arms powerfully into the chest of the tackle. His is a speed to power game, NOT bending around the edge.  Add in some good technique, a pass rushing plan and a non stop motor and we might have something.

Agree that JJ is not a Parsons type player… where speed and bend are a part of his DNA. JJ, I believe, is a hard worker (from JUCO to Georgia to FSU to make it to the NFL) and we should see a better version in TC.

He should see more snaps this year and I expect him to continue his solid run defense while also posting 5-7 sacks.

Trading up into the 1st for a run stopper is pure idiocy.  This is totally false imo, they traded up to get him to be a pass rusher.  The guy had 17.5 frickin sacks in his last college season.

Saying they traded up for a run defender is a total cover your ass comment.

The guy played a bit over 30 % of the snaps last year.  So we pick another pass rusher i the 1st this year who will get a whooping 25-30% of the snaps.

Both Johnson and McDonald need to have big pass rushing seasons this year to justify them being picked that high.

With Lawson & Huff gone next year, JD hoping to get 50% snap count IMO

Completely agree.  Did I write something to suggest otherwise?

They traded up for someone who can set the edge. I don’t know if they saw him as a pure pass rusher, but I tend to doubt it. It’s certainly something they want to see from him, but I think they’re looking more for a starting caliber player, someone who can be effective for three downs. He showed some flashes last year, he needs to put it together this year. Next year, JFM’s contract starts getting expensive (and becomes cuttable) and Lawson will likely be gone. I imagine they want/expect JJ to fill some of that void.

McDonald has had the good fortune of being the team’s #1 pick the year they traded for Rodgers. He’s enjoying being out of the spotlight. I do expect him to be primarily a situational pass rusher this year, someone who maybe gets on the field in place of Johnson on obvious passing downs.

So everyone drafted to play on the DL needs to be a pass rusher first and foremost?  No one cares about setting the edge, making a big run stop on 3rd and short?  It’s all about that sack column.  Except the reality is it’s not.

When the Jets had the Sack Exchange they had 2 guys that were great pass rushers ( Klecko Gastineau) and 2 guys that were stay at home and play the run ( Lyons, Abdul Salaam) before going for the sack.  Klecko was pretty good at both.

I think the Jets have the interior guy in Williams and need an edge guy to establish himself as the Gastineau type of guy.   I think that could be MacDonald - I think Lawson could be the Lyons type of edge this year and Johnson may be that guy going forward- solid, and responsible against both.

O really, tomm?

You’d opt for the $100,000 bottle of malt scotch over a can of flavored spam “meat”?

 Thanks for sharing.
