IMHO, the 15 Biggest Longshots to Make the 2023 Jets Final Roster

Recommended Posts

No disrespect to anyone, obviously, the worst player on the team is 1000x more accomplished athlete than I ever was, but here is my list of.....

THE 15 BIGGEST LONGSHOTS TO MAKE THE 2023 JETS FINAL ROSTER
(Ranked from Longest Shot to Least Longest Shot)

  1. Jerome Kapp WR - Productive Small School UDFA, but just too many WRs ahead of him
Chance of Making the Jets 2023 Opening Day Roster:  2.5%
  2. Brent Laing OL - Small School Mauler who can play G or C
Chance of Making the Jets 2023 Opening Day Roster:  3.0%
  3. Deslin Alexandre DE - Too many players ahead of Alexandre who might have some solid long-term upside
Chance of Making the Jets 2023 Opening Day Roster:  3.5%
  4. Derrick Langford CB -Big Physical CB was an UDFA who had interest from several teams
Chance of Making the Jets 2023 Opening Day Roster:  7.0%
  5. XXX Izaiah Gathings TE - (Released) Small college WR who put up insane numbers and will try to make the Jets at TE
Chance of Making the Jets 2023 Opening Day Roster:  7.5%
  6. Travis Dye RB - Talented, but barring a horrible rash of injuries, will be playing for a spot on the Practice Squad at best
Chance of Making the Jets 2023 Opening Day Roster:  8.5%
  7. Irvin Charles WR - Big Talented WR who can help on Special Teams, but former Packer Malik Taylor makes Charles redundant
Chance of Making the Jets 2023 Opening Day Roster:  9.0%
  8. Claudin Cherelus LB - Jets signed 3 promising UDFA LBs, Cherelus is athletic and has a shot to make the PS
Chance of Making the Jets 2023 Opening Day Roster:  9.0%
  9. Caleb Johnson LB - Tackling Machine who just doesn't have the size/speed numbers that project to NFL success
Chance of Making the Jets 2023 Opening Day Roster:  9.5%
  10. Greg Senat OL - Big talented veteran who has battled injuries but an intriguing player to watch
Chance of Making the Jets 2023 Opening Day Roster: 10.0%
  11. E.J. Jenkins TE - Athletic Freak who the Jets might try to sneak onto the Practice Squad
Chance of Making the Jets 2023 Opening Day Roster:  10.0%
  12. XXX Diontae Spencer WR -  (Injured Reserve) Veteran slot WR/KR - former CFL star. Talented,  but too many WRs ahead of him
Chance of Making the Jets 2023 Opening Day Roster:  11.5%
  13. Maalik Hall LB - Most likely of the 3 UDFA LBs to make it - Very athletic and if he gets an opportunity, who knows?
Chance of Making the Jets 2023 Opening Day Roster:  15.0%
  14. Marquis Waters S - I think Trey Dean is more likely to make the team at S, but Waters has a chance - Definite PS target
Chance of Making the Jets 2023 Opening Day Roster:  18.5%
  15. Craig James CB -  Veteran who wouldn't be a bad backup/special teamer - could have a chance if injuries hit at CB
Chance of Making the Jets 2023 Opening Day Roster:  19.5%

Reportedly, Jets like Irvin Charles more than what you have here. Doesn’t mean he makes it but they reportedly like him quite a bit.

“Potential sleeper: Everybody loves a good long-shot story, right? For the next few months, keep an eye on wide receiver Irvin Charles, who made the practice squad last season as an undrafted free agent out of Indiana University (Pa.). He impressed last season on the practice field and has carried that momentum into the offseason with his studious approach. The team is stacked at receiver, but Charles (listed as 6-foot-4, 219 pounds) is big enough to be a flex tight end. Interesting prospect.”

Somehow I think that this guy will make the team.  With Mims gone, there is an opening.   Mims was that big talented receiver.  Perhaps the Jets see Charles as his replacement?

Taylor has seven career catches for 80 yards and a TD, and missed all of 2022. I don’t think he’s boxing anyone out at WR. The last staff was high on Charles, and I think he, Kapp, and Brownlee are all in the mix to be the sixth WR.
