You were kidding yourself if you thought he'd ever come back here. He's got a major grudge against the Jets / Douglas for not bending over with a pay raise + extension + more guarantees (which it seemed half the board wanted) based on his 2021 season.

Sometimes a GM's great moves are the ones he doesn't make.

Totally forgot about that txs

I don’t get the love for fant. He played well at lt when next to avt but otherwise was pretty pedestrian.

He was pedestrian at right tackle, but played exceptionally well when he was at left tackle for a short stint.  I think the problem was that the Jets wanted to get younger at left tackle, and went out and got Becton to be their future left tackle.  Fant was getting $5 Mill per year from the Jets, and at the time, I think the Jets would have needed to pay Fant at least $10M per year to keep him, something that was never going to happen.  Never going to happen, because at right tackle, he was a place holder, pedestrian as you say.

Now, Fant is 31 years old, and just got a 1 year deal for $4M from Houston.  Personally, I think they got a good deal for Fant, and if he was offered up to the Jets for the same deal, I wish they would have taken it.  If Brown goes down, will Becton even be healthy enough to fill in the position at left tackle?  Becton is the big question mark, and continues to be one until he can show up every single day and ball out.  This BS about him with his "day to day" knee is really aggravating me.  I wish we could trade him for a 2nd round pick today!  I would sign up for that right now!

It's amazing to me we have a thread about a player who was on this team and played poorly or was injured for the majority of the time.

"Wayne Hunter should be brought back. I mean, he knows the system..." said someone, probably, maybe. Probably kev.

Good points.  I get all the angst about becton.  He’s a guy with excellent size and talent but doesn’t seem to want to give 100%.  Of course that’s from a fans perspective. I only hope Douglas and saleh know what they’re doing with this guy.

Correct.

One great year at LT next to AVT, which appears to have been a fluke.  The rest of his career he's been an average at best OT and injured fairly often.

Lucky to get a 4th rounder.
