addage
From Gang Green. By IMissFatRex --Article discusses Breece Hall and Becton. Like many fans, I can work myself into a lather over Becton's several faults--immaturity and tendency to shoot from the lip as two good examples. But when I calm down, I agree with IMissFatRex that we need to be patient and let things play out. There's a lot of talent in that man. If JD and Saleh can find a way to unlock it, the Jets will be a major beneficiary. Anyway--article worth reading. For Becton, he is currently recovering from his second major knee injury in the past 24 months. On Thursday, Becton took himself off of the field in the game between the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns due to concerns about the stability of his knee. For some fans, this was a sign of a player who wasn’t tough enough to hack it. For others, this was a sign of a player intelligently managing his injury. For Head Coach Robert Saleh, it seemed to be a bit of both. However, while these frustrations around Becton’s recovery time are understandable, they ignore a big piece of context. Specifically, Becton tried to play through the pain last training camp and missed the entire season, benefitting neither himself nor the New York Jets. So for Becton, it is important to keep in mind that just because a player has been cleared to take the field does not mean that they are ready to participate in full or to meet their previous standards. While this conversation is most pertinent to Becton right now, it will also likely apply to Breece Hall later in the year and other Jets players in future years, and should be accounted for in any related player evaluations made by fans or NFL personnel.

rangerous
Didn’t becton have one big knee injury? It does sound like the jets medical staff missed all of the damage from the dislocated knee cap and that led to an even bigger problem. And becton didn’t help matters by putting on so much weight in the first place.

The Jets have a vested interest in having Becton healthy (A first round pick and Millions in contract %). Are you saying that the Jets "Medical Staff" didn't do imaging of the knee, or they did, and decided to misinterpret the findings? Really? The guy clearly didn't buy into the rehab process, got fat and exacerbated his own injury, and now he cries about it whenever he "feels it". Bro, I had arthritis in my knees and ankle by the time I was 25 (Thanks, Army!) But still pushed through Fire Academy at 30, because I WANTED IT. When I blew my ankle up on the job, the Doc looked at my MRI and told me I was "looking at a career change". I said F*ck that, and dove into PT and Rehab 3 days a week for 3 months. After they worked on my ankle, they let me use the equipment to work out so I could keep in shape. Went back to the line after 6 months, worked another 12 years, mostly as Truck Boss on a busy ladder company. I know, the first comment will be the condescending bs, "Well, he's a professional athlete, not the same....". Yeah, playing for about an hour, hour and 15 or so 17 times a year is so much more taxing than gearing up in 80+ pounds of equipment, fighting fires, running stairs in high rises, non-stop training and hose drills, and all the other hard, physically demanding work every 3rd day for a couple of decades. sh*t, Becton wouldn't last a week banging nails or being an iron worker... dudes do that for decades, every day. Being an NFL player is a winning Powerball ticket. Work 6 months a year, the potential for generational wealth in the range of tens or hundreds of millions of dollars, fame... Dude just doesn't want it. He got paid, and he's going through the motions. Good on him for getting down to 350, though.... 1
jgb
Becton will go as far as his talent will take him because he’s not a guy to put in the work.

The jets may have a vested interest in keeping him healthy but it also means getting him on the field, and quickly. Remember salehs first take was that it was a four week injury. Why did it slip to the end of the season? If the surgery was successful for the first knee issue then my guess is it wouldn’t have failed again. Granted it doesn’t sound like becton stayed in shape during his first rehab but I don’t think a few extra lbs would have caused his knee to fail like it did.

Green Ghost
Becton’s first knee surgery might not have gone well, and/or he dogged it during his recuperation period. Who knows? I don’t really care who was at fault at this point. He lost me when he let himself blow up to 400 lbs. That told me all I needed to know about him. Now it’s a contract year and he shows up 50 pounds lighter? He should’ve been at that weight two years ago. The way I look at it, if he somehow ends up contributing that’s great. I’m not counting on it happening though. Becton is a sad story.
Ron Rico
The raison d'etre of a left tackle is to protect the QB. Duane Brown has proven he can do that. Becton? Let's hope the Jets have a few games this season with 3 score leads going into the 4th quarter where the offense just wants to run the clock, out. That's when Becton can play left tackle. When life hands you lemons, make lemonade. When life hands you a sh*t sandwich, make somebody else eat it.
