Zach Wilson - Every Throw vs Panthers

Recommended Posts

It looks kinda like the same thing we've seen now for a couple years.  He mostly makes simple 1 read throws.  Several of those throws have some nice zip on them, and he rolls out with some good suddenness.

The flipside is that the majority of his balls have accuracy problems, especially the gimme throws.  Many of the completions are actually not where they need to be, and that either exposes the receiver to a big hit, or loses potential YAC b/c of it, and you can see why there are so many drops by the receiver corps as a lot of those balls are hard to catch.

Also he looked better against the Uhaul drivers then the starters.

Still isn’t fit to be an NFL starter. But he has a couple years to grow.

This is how I saw it also. He proved having him as the number 2 is perfectly fine. But he's not a starter yet. Have to hope he develops consistency. If he's consistently hitting the short passes and every now and then popping a deep ball, that's a middle of the pack starter. He'll not a top notch running game to support him though.

Didn’t watch this one, just watch little bit of Zach

I was pregame surfing for an hour getting ready.   Then it started…  run run screen.

The Dline was fun to watch and that was it.

I thought he was pretty good today. Just in general he looks calmer and more in control. He had a few passes that weren't great but some guys just can't give the guy any credit. I have bashed him plenty but he does look different. Maybe a year or 2 learning from a future HOFer will help him become a solid backup. I'm not sure if he will ever be a starting QB.

I think it’s a positive that he’s dumping it off instead of trying to create stuff on his own, but I wish those dump offs were a little more accurate than they are because he’s going to get somebody killed.

This

At least he’s not trying to constantly pirouette out of a clean pocket and throw the ball up for grabs off his back foot.

I noticed multiple plays where he was working his way through his reads instead of locking onto his primary from the jump.

He’s made strides, but he still manages to make the routine look difficult for some reason.

Didn't get to see the game tonight, was at a Nats game in DC (walkoff HR by Ruiz on the first pitch in the bottom of the 9th to win, go Nats!)

So I REALLY appreciate you posting this vid, great way to see how Zach played.

I still see the guy we saw in the past, he is fundamentally an inaccurate thrower of the football, and we saw that alot in this video.  It's hard to see him being a modern 65%+ type NFL QB at this point without serious improvement in his throw accuracy in the future.

I think Zach showed some progress. Of course still has a ways to go. But he showed something to build on. He was non-functional at the end of the year last year. Hopefully he can continue to improve and be at least a functional back up for the time being.

It’s weird how on any in-breaking route it always seems like there are 2 or 3 defenders in the immediate area converging as the ball arrives.

Must be easy for defenders to read ZW’s eyes  / tendencies.

Hackett did a great job dialing up the simple no-read boot action plays today, but that can’t be the entire passing game.

As a drop back passer being asked to read the entire field (i.e. a real QB) ZW still has a long way to go.

You could say today constitutes “progress” since he’s getting the ball out faster and didn’t dirt any layups.

The blue tent / hospital balls are a a legit concern.

Baby steps, I guess.

He still doesn’t have any kind of commanding presence out there and ultimately I don’t think his teammates believe in him.

Do they like him and support him?  Yeah probably.  He’s a nice kid.

But the euphoric sycophantism throughout the entire organization over Aaron Rodgers tells you everything you need to know about how they felt with ZW.

There was nothing remotely close to this kind of hysteria when Favre took over on the heels of the Chad era, and Favre was obviously also an all-time great and future HOFer.

This.

Zach telegraphs his throws.  Which is why most of his completions are designed dump off plays that’s the only way to protect him from throwing an INT.

But congrats to everyone.  He looked mediocre facing the panthers backups

First and foremost, it's preseason, you really cant put stock into any performance from this garbage (lets remember how he looked as a rookie in the preseason) but I will give  him this, his drop backs and footwork isnt near as sloppy as it's been.  Way more precise on hitting the back foot w/ the right steps and not continuing to fade or drift.

Progress?  Who knows, it's meaningless.

He barely played in the preseason as a rookie. I’m happy they finally let him play but it’s clear he’s doing everything with training wheels. He was the second pick in the draft and gives you nothing that would indicate that.
