Warfish Inspired: Which teams have more top end talent than these Jets?

Recommended Posts

You pretty much nailed it… our window is shorter compared to the other teams, quarterback, wise… So let’s win now and or next year…💪💪

OK, back to the negativity, expecting another Zach sucks thread pretty soon, or JD sucks because he didn’t build an all world offensive line yet… 🙄🙄🙄

The man wants some optimism.

Assuming as an optimist that Breece regains his form this season, which teams have a better combination of top end talent than the Jets?

Factor in premium positions & age.

For this thread, ignore all the things that tend to go wrong for the Jets .. injuries, bad luck, being great at losing, horrible coaching, tough division, tough schedule.

QB:  Aaron Rodgers

WR:  Garrett Wilson

Playmaker:  Breece Hall

RB:  Dalvin Cook* (debatable)

G:  Alijah Vera Tucker

DT:  Quinnen Williams

CB:  Sauce, DJ, Carter II

Edge:  Nasty blend of JJ, Huff, McDonald, Lawson, JFM, Clemons

———————————————————-

My own list at this point in time ..

Yes

KC:  (overweighting Mahomes, Kelce)

Eagles:  QB, OL, DL, WR, CB, TE

Bengals:  QB, WR, LT, Edge, LB

Debatable

Browns:  OL, RB, TE, Edge, CB

Dallas:  OL, WR, RB, Edge, CB

Chargers:  QB, LT, RB, Edge, Safety

Bills:  QB, WR, Edge, Safety, LB

Nope
Dolphins:  QB* (concussion risk cannot be ignored), WR, LT* (carted off today), Edge, DT, CB* (Ramsey out multiple months)

Summary:  Jets have a fantastic blend of an experienced QB with plenty left in the tank and a young core of ascending players at mostly premium positions.  There is no single Edge who is dominant yet BUT the combination of edges is what makes this group scary.  On the flip side, Rodgers will need a better OL than when he was younger given his age and diminishing mobility.

The Chiefs, Eagles and Bengals are in a league of their own for now.

The Cowboys and Browns are very talented but have question marks at the all important QB.

The Chargers, like the Jets, have a great blend of experienced/young high end talent.

The Bills have a top 3 QB, a top 5-7 WR, a dangerous trio at the Edge, a great set of safeties, and one of the better LBs but many of their best players are on the wrong side of 30.

Your guys thoughts?

Yeah jerts are number 1

If you could frame this question a different way, I'd say I'm not afraid of the Chiefs or Bengals - because of our defense.

I think the Eagles would be our worst matchup

Eagles 70 sack defense vs the Jets O Line...

Buffalo still very good, obviously KC and the Bengals

If you allow yourself to daydream that Becton and Zach will reach their potential this year I’d say the eagles are the only team just straight up better than the Jets

Why would you bring Zach into this discussion?

The memo said ignore divisive  players that will bring the discussion down a rabbit hole.

The Jets are one of the most talented teams in the league. I think you pretty much covered it. I’d say 49ers, Bengals, Eagles, and KC are more talented.

We’re in the second tier teams like the Bills, Browns, Dallas, Miami, and Baltimore. Might be missing a team or two. Injuries is what will separate these teams.

Because I didn’t read that part. Thought the title was kinda self explanatory and I don’t reality see the point in comparing rosters while excluding players that are high first round picks and very talented players because there are strong conflicting opinions on them amongst the fans.

I bet every fan base has that issue.

I found myself in a twitter tussle about Lance and Purdy just this morning with a fellow that accused me of having emotional attachments to Purdy , which was the only possible explanation for why I was criticizing Lance for passing up open first reads.

so scratch Lance and Purdy from the 9ers roster ?

I was just kidding.  In so many words, Warfish asked for some optimistic posts that we could all get behind.  Once Zach enters the equation, chains seem to blow up.

That said, I was at camp today and Zach really does look so much more confident.

QB #2 is also a position that generally doesn’t play unless something bad happens to QB #1 and in most cases that is not a good thing.

I’ll comment as as my friend shows up. @Warfish

We're a very talented team "on-paper" (a comment said many times in week 2 of hard knocks, and which feels appropriate).

I'd say, without doing any real research, that we're a top 10 overall team talent w/ Rodgers and Cook onboard now.  Maybe top 5-6.

But it all has to come together, and our O-line may be the one unit that needs to prove it's not bottom 10 or bottom 5.  As Saleh says, as they go, the Jets go.

But it's hard to complain about overall team talent.  JD has certainly addressed that deficiency, but now it's about turning talent into winning.

The Raiders

Lets see Wr , d Adams , Jakobi Meyers , and Hunter Renfrow are easy top five trio unit in the game.

Rb Josh Jacobs

Ot - Lt Kolton Miller +Rt  J Eluemunor - last year faced the second most amount of the top pass rushers . gives them top ten duo in the nfl. Eluemunor just had two many penalties.
G- Dylan Parham - watch this guy has chance to be pro bowl at either guard or center eventually.  ( wouldn’t say that now  but will say after the year.
defense end - Raiders MAXX Crosby ( could be Dpoy) , and Tyrell Wilson( just started practicing, Chandler Jones - will be comeback player of the year Malcom Koonce, Adam plant - udfa opened a lot of eyes .
Dt no q Williams but very young deep Dt group that’s going to push the pocket back on the Qb.   Here Mathew Butler probably doesn’t make the team . https://x.com/kuhntristen/status/1692383046148788489?s=61

cb m Peters 3rd Jakorian Bennett , and Nate Hobbs in the slot.
This 2023 Raiders  draft might be their  best draft in longterm better than 2014.    1 De Tyree Wilson 2 Te Michael Mayer3. Dt Byron Young  3. Wr Tre Tucker 4.Cb Jakorian Bennett 4. Aidan O’Connell 5. S Chris Smith 6 Lb Amari Burney 7 Dt Nesta Jade Silveria.     UDFA’s. G / Rt McClendon Curtis and Rt Dalton Wagner both could be starting in 2024 .  Ilb Drake Thomas

Pretty much agree with this list.  Maybe not so much the cowgirls. They’ve been loaded for a very long time with little to show.  But winning any of these out of conference and out of division games is a little meaningless if they don’t take care of business within the division.  Get six wins in the division and then grab four to seven more out of the remaining eleven games. Easier said than done but doable.
