Popular Post 32EBoozer
https://www.ganggreennation.com/2023/8/27/23846956/what-did-the-new-york-jets-really-lose-when-they-cut-safety-jason-pinnock-in-2022-new-york-giants On Saturday, the Jets played the Giants and Pinnock, which got me thinking about what the Jets really lost when they cut Pinnock. More specifically, I know he starts, but is he any good? As it turns out, the answer is “not really” as Pinnock’s 2022 PFF grade was only 61.3. For reference, a 61.3 is lower than starting safety Jordan Whitehead, who had a grade of 66.1and who many Jets fans wanted cut for his perceived bad performance in 2022. Additionally, as it pertains to the Jets, Pinnock’s skills don’t really align with their needs. While their safety coverage was poor and led many to call for an upgrade, Pinnock was very bad in coverage as far as PFF was concerned with a grade of 53.0. Again, for reference, Whitehead was thought to be bad in coverage but had a PFF grade of 70.6 in this area, highlighting just how bad a grade of 53.0 is. In terms of the good, Pinnock had a 76.6 rush defense grade, but the Jets were hardly in need of a run stopping safety based on the current roster. Overall, it looks like the Jets made a mistake in cutting a young player who could start for an NFL team, but I’m not sure that Pinnock’s skillset would have really been of much help to the current version of the New York Jets defense. If I had to guess, Pinnock’s struggles in coverage would have likely led many fans to call for him to be relegated to a backup role, where he’d likely be a great value. For the Jets, they likely erred in cutting him, but I’m not sure the error was meaningfully costly to the 2022 or 2023 version of the Jets. All in all, the “they never should have cut Pinnock” arguments seem to be far louder than they have any right to be.

Bobby816
Well if you think about it. We should’ve cut Joyner last year and kept Pinnock and let Adams, Pinnock battle it out for starting FS. He didn’t “have to” be cut last year. Now the comparison will be who’s better Adams or Pinnock for the rest of their career. Bc Adams was kept over Pinnock. And now they’re both starting. Personally I think both will be good. Not great, but good. Hence why I would’ve tattered kept both and let that bum Joyner go last year.

I get the people saying they should have Davis for him, but I think they figured they could sneak him on the practice squad. They did not have the roster room the Giants did and needed the special teams play. Anybody complaining about last year's cuts on D is delusional. They obviously were making the right decisions because that group took a huge step up and they are still extremely young. I posted a link the OP's article yesterday. I don't know how much stock to put in it, but they show Pinnock's numbers as good vs run very bad vs. pass. That is not what we need and if he is missing assignments we do not need that. Maybe he fits them better. Good for him.
FootballLove
Adams had a great camp....he was all over the place in the 2ndary. Adams is the real deal. Pinnock is decent, but will struggle his whole career to cover sideline to sideline in the back end where Adams seems to look forward to it. Adams > Pinnock

I liked Pinnock as a CB prospect. I didn't really study him much at S. They both were solid corner prospects with good numbers. Their athletic profiles are remarkably similar. I was at the Denver game where he would try to cover / chase Jeudy on crossers. The amount of separation Jeudy was able to get on him was ridiculous. At his age, there was zero upside for development, and team expectations were so low last year. It’s not as if you needed a “reliable vet” for a championship run. Shouldn’t have sacrificed Pinnock for him, but I guess the money was also a determining factor, as it almost always is.
65 Toss Power Trap
Cutting Pinnock was a head scratcher last year. Seems more so now. And it wasn’t like he was a question mark. He had been working his tail off for a year to make the adjustments the coaches have asked of him, and he was having a stellar camp. His abilities were showing up on the field. We could have used him going forward. We could’ve kept Adams too.

David Harris
This article makes me feel better. This is quibbling with the beautiful work JD has done but I did want to keep Pinnock over Ashtyn Davis last year and think it was a mistake. He is super athletic and seemed to have a good head on his shoulders. He outperformed Davis on defense, but maybe not on ST's. Ashytn Davis costs $3 mill, made some run game tackles this year, improved his angles, but hasn't shown much in the pass defense. I'd still rather have Pinnock, but again this is the 4th safety spot we're talking about so whatever. This is the best Jets team in memory. GreenFish
The decision last year came down to Tony Adams vs Jason Pinnock. The coaching staff did not want to lose Adams. I dont know who will be better but my guess is the coaching staff does not regret that decision.
