Bryce Hall takes a pay cut

This guy is such an enigma because a lot of the catches on him, are with him right around the ball (or he's getting called for DPI).  Always feel like he'd be much better in coverage if he could raise his arms or just turn around more.  Feel like he's a bigger Kyle Wilson at this point.

Yeah I remember thinking he was good as a rookie then QBs figured out they could just throw to his guy even if they looked covered

What in the hell happened to this guy since his rookie year?  I thought he played well and would be solid contributor at a key position for years to come.  He's looked pretty bad ever since.

I guess he's a survivor!   Not a competitor!  Certainly not a commander.

He didn't necessarily take a pay cut, he restructured his deal to have less of a cap hit in 2023

He is in the final year of his deal. Unless he was extended, which is doubtful, it looks like a straight pay cut.

Yo that's a massive haircut

Over 60%

Maybe he was never that good to begin with, but he also doesn't appear be playing with any confidence since his rookie year

Ture, but making a million dollars for a year to be not good at something? I'm jelly!

Even if his pay cut is commensurate with his value it always sucks to see guys not making big coin (by pro sports standards) taking cuts while guys making huge money are not earning it.

Remember hard knocks?  Tanny calling Kellen Clemens into his office and telling him he as getting a pay cut or he was out the door?

Yeah, but he was only on the books for $2.8M this year.  Is cutting $1.5M going to do that much?

I'm expecting Ashtyn Davis to get a similar cut. Together that'd be $2.2MM instead of $5.5MM = $3.3MM.

Where it matters is it makes them more palatable to cut midseason, and/or more attractive to trade now or at any point up to Halloween.

Even if both are kept all season long, together with the $14MM pay cut CJM should have coming to him, it all adds up.

;)

I think the same thing. Blewett on X-factor things he is still really good but made a couple high visibility mistakes people cant get past. His rookie year he looked like a steal that would develop into a well above average corner but that does not seem to have happened.

I was trying to find the quote earlier, but didn’t Mosley say they approached him about a restructure earlier in the summer?

Yeah I remember that one well. It was hard to watch. Really cringy to put that on camera, regardless of how common the occurrence is. Of course they do always show someone getting cut (no less sad for those who didn't make it, but it's not the same at all since it's a given that all but 53 players are getting cut for every team every year).

The way to look at it isn't a pay cut, but rather a guarantee instead of getting cut, which is what would've happened. If cut, he's not getting a full season's $ because it's just as unlikely teams hold off on signing him until week 1's games are over, after which he (and his paycheck) would be week to week at the team's pleasure.

No one was going to fully guarantee Hall at nearly $3MM. Certainly not the Jets, just for Hall to be the team's 5th corner from week 2 onward, after Echols comes off suspension.

Being 25+ mil under the cap is good and I hope they aren't doing this to float till next season... But it seems like they are trying to make a big move

Wait a sec….not that I’m complaining but how are teams able to get a pay cut out of the final year on a rookie deal?  The CBA allows for this?  Or was this not part of his rookie deal somehow?

@Sperm Edwards

Rookie contracts can get adjusted after 3 seasons. Just like a player can have his 4th season get a pay raise, he can also get a pay cut.

Can we make a certain QB take a paycut in year 4 of his rookie deal next offseason then?  Asking for a friend.
