Popular Post EM31
I know that New England fans (and others) used to joke about how the Jets had won the offseason every year but this year is something different. I think we actually had an offseason for the ages and today is the last day before the new season begins. So here am I being a little selfish and marking the end of that epic offseason with a thread. Well done JD. Could we have done things a little differently to strengthen the O-Line? Maybe so, but all things considered we are in as good a shape going into a year as we have been at any time in my memory. And yes, that includes both years where we went to the AFC championship game. Here's hoping for no significant injuries and that all of the pieces come together quickly and without any major misfires taking place. Let's go Jets. 14

Popular Post Biggs
I think it's not just this offseason. It's a culmination of offseasons going back to the drafting by Mac of Q and even Adams who Joe D turned into a nice haul of players.

And will remain so till the team gives me reason not to be optimistic. My primary cause of cynicism has been removed, and replaced by a future HOF'er. And old one, a rental, to be sure, but still. This is a good solid roster. It should do well. We'll see if it will.

I’m also more optimistic than most of the old salts but as you see what I wrote I was defining the line to achieve majority optimism amongst the cynics.

And yes, that includes both years where we went to the AFC championship game. This team is much deeper than the first two Tanny/Rex years. Whose OL are you comparing the Jets to? As Parcells used to say, there’s only so many of those guys on the planet and the entire league finds itself in short supply. The Jets have a solid starting five (on paper, at least), and five more OL with some positional versatility behind them. If you believe that games are won or lost in the trenches, you have to appreciate the way he’s built this team. If you think it’s star caliber performers who drive success, then you have to like that about this team, too. JD has certainly not hit on every move, but he’s taken a long term bottom feeder with the worst roster in football and gotten them into the championship discussion in four years. Not like the Rams, either, but -even with the trade for Aaron Rodgers- they’re set up for long term success. JD is easily the best GM this team has ever had and I would extend him happily today. Cue the guys who would still like to litigate his very first draft in 3… 2…

Cue the guys who would still like to litigate his very first draft in 3… 2… No team is perfect and no team has perfect depth so injuries are a concern across the board no matter who you are. Our defense is superior up front and prospectively at least, superior at the back but being a worry wart I am concerned about the linebackers and their ability to shut down the screens and passes out into the flat that we will see a whole bunch of once opposing offenses decide not to get their QB killed and not to test us over the top. It is like a funnel we are aiming in their direction and they will need to be ready.
JohnnyLV
I would not have gone the direction they did but we are almost certain not to see one like it again: 1. 2 HOF Inductees 2. HOF Game 3. Extra week of pre-season 4. Hard Knocks 5. Rodgers 6. Two UDFA WRs making the 53 7. As healthy as I can remember any Jets team going into the season 4
PepPep
Without getting into all the other acquisitions and details of the character and depth signings that I thought were great. Just getting Rodgers while keeping the rest of the team intact (or as good as it was last year) is an offseason win for JD. You always want to do more, you always want to improve the team as much as possible but the main issue was QB. Not O-line, not LB, not any other position. It was QB. This was addressed in spades with Rodgers. You may not like HOW it was done or the exact guy we got, but the bottom line is that the BIGGEST thing that held this team back last year was QB (the most important position on the team) and we got a MASSIVE upgrade at that position. That wins you the offseason. Put Rodgers on this team last year and we probably play in the AFCCG.

Well, when Parcells coached us as he said fir the OTs on the line, there aren't trees to be picking them off of, and he was the defacto GM. JD doesn’t speak like that but same goes for him. I would add that getting Quinnen contract done for what is looking like a bargain price (after the Basa deal)/ Another win for the front office.
