Tonight marks the start of the 60^th year of Jets football.  After crushing the off season this may be the most anticipated year for Gotham’s green and white since 1999. 

Dandy Don, Howard Cosell, Frank Gifford.  ABC Monday Night Football.  Could it be any better than this?  

Are you ready to subject yourself to hours of drug commercials?  Drugs that will make you hard, pea like a 15-year-old and end postpartum depression?  Hell yes!   Bring on the Coors beer, Chevy truck and the official online gambling web sites of the NFL.  I’ll take it all for a few minutes of Jets football.  The destination, Super Bowl LVIII.  

Joe Douglas, pulling a page out of Shelly’s Frankenstein, has sewed together pieces of the 85 Bears and the greatest show on turf.  The patient brought to life by the high stakes gambling of owner Woody Johnson.   

On a dark and stormy night Woody, playing poker with Bob Kraft, Brian Gutenkunst and Bill Cody, called Cody and threw in future draft picks and came away with Aaron Rodgers and an undisclosed 14 year old girl of Asian descent whose name has been withheld to protect the Shield.  (PM @footballguy if you’re curious)

Yes, Jets fans, we finally have the trigger man we have waited for since Broadway Joe moved on from the Broadway stage and died on the big screen in LA.  The WR with Don Maynard’s speed and Al Toon’s grace and hands.  A running back who will make us forget John Riggins glory years… with the Redskins.   And yes, let’s not forget a coaching staff modeled after the great Dallas Cowboys cheerleader squads of the 60’s.  J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!

Bobby Saleh has instilled a new winning culture.  Borrowing an inspirational message he first saw hanging in the Humanetics factory, the worlds largest manufacturer of crash dummies and the place his uncle Phil worked at.    “All Gas, No Breaks”.   

The anticipation is palpable.  Could this be the team that finally shuts up Mercury Morris and the rest of the living members of the 1972 Dolphins?   Could this be the team that plays to win and shocks the football world by, dare I say it, winning?

Classical conditioning has taught me that tonight will be a repeat of last night's quagmire debacle at the Meadowlands mausoleum. The good thing is we have been so terrible over the past decade that if that heaven forbid does happen, I will be ready and easily able to go right to sleep early enough to wake up for work tomorrow on time. I expect nothing so if we get surprised it's a bonus. Sorry, they just talk too god damned much.

While you are probably right, I see no reason not to be all in.   When the games begin Im always all in.  

This league is built on parity.   We have a good roster.  We can play with anyone, stack wins, make the playoffs and shock the Football world.   I was alive when we did it once.

i can give you a million reasons why this team cant do it.  Right now Im looking for reasons we can do it.

We root for the team that has the longest playoff drought in the 4 major sports yet, year after year after year, we talk smack before having done anything.  It's almost like that "it's just a flesh wound" scene in Monty Python.

Fwiw, I'm very optimistic about this team this year.  I do think we'll end our playoff drought.  But I also realize that our schedule (and conference) is brutal and our division will be very tough.  Tonight's game is already a big one.

Actually, receipt collecting starts week 2. Even if the Jets do win this game, I'm not going to use it to project the rest of the season. The offense was completely overhauled, all the way down to the coordinator. We have no idea what type of kinks they have to work out before they take off.

I mean, that's the whole point of receipts though.  Not talking sh*t until the work is done.  If the work is never done, you don't get to talk your sh*t.  Simple.
