TuscanyTile2
I think we're too talented overall to still be in the Caleb Williams sweepstakes. But we do play a brutal schedule. And in 2020, Jax started the season with a win followed by all losses. Then again, it's possible he decides to stay at USC for another season. 4 1

The Jets D and RBs are too talented for this to be realistic, unless of course injuries decimate us. The goal instead should be to trade for a quality QB who can step in if / when Zach falters. Popular Post Lith
Are we really going here again. After our defense fought their asses off all night. Big plays in the running game and Special teams. We are not tanking and we are too damn good (everywhere except QB) to give be thinking about a top 3 pick. I would love to have a healthy, dynamic future HOF QB, but that lasted all of 4 offensive plays. Lets get a game manager and ride our D and running game as far as we can. Whether its Wilson or a guy like Davis Mills, or someone else that we can pry loose for a day 3 pick. Just manage the game, run the ball, play great D and make just enough plays to win. We are 1-0 with a W over a Division rival who is also a SB contender. I am not ready to give up on another season in September. But we do need another QB by Sunday. 7

This team is going nowhere without a QB, there isn't one to get, and every win going forward only serves to ensure they remain average at best. In an odd way this scenario allows everything to play itself out so the jets start fresh at qb next season. Even if rodgers returns from this injury it may not be by the start of the season so the jets really can’t rely on him anymore at this point. I’m assuming the jets don’t make the playoffs with wilson and what happened last year happens again, that the team is good or great but the qb play holds them back. Plus they have their first rounder which if they don’t make the playoffs is top 20 and maybe top 15 when all is said and done. So yeah i think not only is it possible the jets draft a new qb in the first round next year, but that wilson is gone and they bring in another vet as insurance with rodgers retiring and sticking around in nyc as a pseudo mentor while enjoying the nyc life. We were 5-2 at one point last year with a lesser roster. The defense looks dominant and Breece is already right back to where he was before the injury. The OL is only going to get better if they stay healthy. All we need is for Zach to play within himself, not make careless mistakes and make incremental progress throughout the year. If we can manage that, this team will still be a tough out every week and challenge for a playoff spot.

Hopefully wilson learned a huge lesson last night - that turnovers matter more than big sexy plays. Allen’s 2nd half vs Wilson’s 2nd half is a perfect learning opportunity, just don’t throw those dumb passes over the middle. Take 2nd and 7. I really hope they employ a short passing offense with the rbs and TEs. And maybe even use Gipson too.
slimjasi
Don’t even bother dreaming. the roster is too good, even with the brutal schedule. We have the Falcons, Commanders, Raiders, broncos, and patriots at home. We also still match up extremely well with Buffalo and Miami. the problem is that 3 wins will probably be too many to get Williams. We already have one. It’s just not realistic, IMO.

Assuming the jets do not make the playoffs, they’ll be in a great position to grab one.

I hold my breath every time he attempts something between the hashmarks. The Jets need to make the screen their best friend moving forward. Brady and the Pats did it for a solid decade and consistently gave teams fits en route to multiple championships. You have a Breece/Cook/Carter backfield and you have dangerous YAC guys like Wilson and Hardman at wideout. Plus you go three deep at TE to cap it off. Pound the piss out of the ball, work the screen game heavily, and take the occasional shot to Wilson/Lazard downfield when available.

He sees guys cutting and doesn’t anticipate that those passing lanes will get cut off. He’s better along the sidelines where the chance of getting undercut is minimized. screens are huge now. Also use the TEs. Short outs to Gipson too. Let the guys get yac and then run the ball with those rbs. It’s a viable plan with the personnel they have. Also wilson is a good athlete, have him roll out where he seems more comfortable. The only thing they shouldn’t have him do is sit in the pocket and read the middle as you said. It’s the worst plan for him.

Warfish
At least some folks are consistent in always rooting for maximum losses as early as possible every year, so they can complain later when we don't get the "generational" QB. I expect we'll see many more posts from these folks this year about how dumb we are for this or that move/decision/win because "we missed on Trevor, and coulda had Caleb, but no!" Is there anything more Jetsy, after losing Rodgers after 4 plays, than "Jets Should Tank for this QB" threads after week 1. Same old Jets, same old Jets fans. Agreed. But last night, we never made the BIlls defend down the field. Almost everything was within 10 yards of the line. Odd game, Zach coming in without getting reps with the 1s. Just have to hope they can open things up a bit more. Still a conservative, run first offense, but we are going to have to take some shots. Force opponents to defend the whole field. Which means Duane Brown is gonna have to be better than he was last night -- hopefully he is just working off the rust. The alternative is he is 38-years old, coming off surgery and may just not be that good anymore.

One of my worries with Zach, and a worry I had about Darnold which was confirmed, was that the Jets would take a natural born gunslinger and cut his balls off because of turnover concerns. The stuff that made Zach the #2 pick was the crazy arm talent and the ability to throw off platform down the field with accuracy. They have to let him take some one on one shots to Wilson downfield. They just have to. I’m much more concerned about Zach turning it over on a simple crossing pattern across the middle than I am with him chucking the ball 40+ yards downfield. Don’t have him rely on those timing throws where lbs undercut the routes. Have wilson and hardman go long and have him heave it 60 yards. "Releasing Zach" is a great way to see a sub 50% completion ratio, a lowest in the NFL YPA, a backwards TD:INT ratio and a third year in a row of the worst QB rating amongst starting QB's. Zach doesn't suck because he's being constrained by coaches. Zach just sucks, he's not an NFL starting-level talent. He lacks fundamental ability at a variety of skills required to play at an NFL level. His decision making is piss poor, his accuracy is sub-standard, his evasiveness is wasted by bad decision making, and his arm, his primary positive, is wasted because he can't see the field, can't work off defenders, focusses on one receiver, and is too slow making decisions and throws a naturally inaccurate ball when he does. Constraining him, as they did last night, and hoping the D and RB's can win the games for you, is the ONLY route forward if Zach Wilson is your starting QB. "Release" him, and we go right in the sh*tter, same as last year and the year before.
