Jets Make Decision on Reaching Out to Tom Brady as Aaron Rodgers Injury Replacement, per Report

https://www.si.com/.amp/nfl/2023/09/13/jets-aaron-rodgers-tom-brady-injury-replacement-news

The aftermath of the season-ending injury suffered by Aaron Rodgers provided a number of questions and brought a wide-range of emotions and debates. When factoring in how the Jets rallied to win their Week 1 matchup with the Bills in thrilling fashion—on an overtime punt-return touchdown by Xavier Gipson—it made for one wild Monday Night Football game, literally from start to finish.

The franchise and coach Robert Saleh have now shifted their attention from the severity of Rodgers’s injury, which was confirmed as a torn Achilles, to plans for the remainder of this season. And less than 48 hours after the injury, we can also close the door on a hypothetical outcome featuring Tom Brady joining Gang Green.

Brady’s retirement appears to be for good this time. The Jets are reportedly opting against reaching out about Brady’s potential desire to return, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.

Jets are doing the old switcheroo! They want Brady but realize if they try and recruit him they don't have a chance so they pretend they dont want him hoping that he will realize the magnitude of the situation and he reaches out to the Jets.

So, what you're saying is, the only way to win him over is to deflate his expectations?

This might suck but the best thing for the Jets might be Zach going out there this Sunday and playing HORRIBLE.

This way they can rip the bandaid off and bring in a new QB for week 3.

Last thing we need is the defense winning the game while Zach throws 12 completions and buys himself another 4 games as the starter.

If true, the Jets are stupid. You call Brady, Brees, Rivers etc. These dudes are Hall of Famers.

Absolutely!

I think the article kind of told the story though that Brady said he was done.  Only after that, did the Jets "decide" not to reach out to him.

If Brady were willing to come back and play here, it would be dereliction of duty for JD to not pursue him.

Do you understand how toxic this is?

You are literally saying - I hope our QB plays poorly so the team will get rid of him.  You would rather the Jets fail than Zach perform well.  At least you're saying it out loud now and not hiding it anymore.  For that I am grateful.

Toxic fan base at its best.

Call me crazy, but I think the best thing for the team is for Zach to play good.

That's what you call reverse psychology.  Very clever!!

Anymore toxic then spamming every thread in the offseason about how the Jets arent actually trying to win but really just trying to make headlines?

Rodgers pretty much said he needs huge doubters as motivation.   Can't blame Fidelio for trying.  The fat shaming of Becton apparently worked.

Nah.

I still root for the team to win and want to see success. I would love to Joe Douglas to become a good GM.  I root for every player he picks.  And every game they play.

Amazing you claim I spammed every thread but clearly never read what I wrote.    I never said it's because they want to make headlines, I said they wanted to appease the fan base while continue their long term rebuild.

I didn't then and still don't believe that JD was confident they have a Super Bowl capable team (IMO,I believe the team is better than JD)  Otherwise they wouldn't have gone into this season a legit WR short and no legitimate healthy starting Tackles.

I must admit though I am cynical about about our ownership and his motivations.

To be clear and to repeat - I don't think it was about headlines at all, never said it was - and would love for you to point out a single place where I said that.  So an apology on that would be appreciated.
