Offensive Ineptitude (Other than ZW) Yesterday

Recommended Posts

The Pats had injuries all over the place yesterday.  I think they had 3 DBs out yet they still played man-to-man against our WRs and there were MANY times where it looked like every one of our receivers was well covered.   Also, their rookie DB Christian Gonzalez looks as good as (and possibly better than) Sauce.  Meanwhile, the Pats drafted Gonzalez at #1.17 while we drafted Sauce at #1.04.

Hackett is a bum.

The one QB who is making Zach look non horrible is Fields, man does he stink.

Then we have the frigging dolphins how impressive are they?  McDaniel makes saleh look like a rank amateur.  (TD from Mike white to Robbie Anderchosen)

The nice bit of schadenfreude for this week was Sean Payton going 0-3 and getting seal clubbed in Denver.

CB is probably the hardest position in the NFL to be consistently good at.  I expected Sauce to drop off this year and I don't expect Gonzalez to look this good all the time either.

Oh please. An average QB wins that game. There were opportunities to move the ball but ZW is just so bad at making the right reads and getting the ball out quickly. He was atrocious.

The funny thing is most people (myself being one) agree with Sean Payton that Nate Hackett stinks - lol.

But I still agree that it was a classless thing for him to say.  And Payton's first 3 games in Denver have been an epic embarrassment so far.  That 70 will stick with his coaching career forever.  I still laugh at the Dolphins for 63-7 loss to Jax in that playoff game years back (I think the final game of both Dan Marino and Jimmy Johnson's careers).

Oh also, jet nation was brutally wrong re vet players as usual.   When the the name Keenan Allen was brought up everyone and their dog turned their noses up at him and said 'he's done' much like Trent williams and peyton manning

Where has Mecole Hardman been this season, btw?  We couldn't have had ZW try to get the ball in his hands and run free?  Or maybe even a reverse?

And far worse, where the heck is Jeremy Ruckert?!  What explanation can our CS possibly have as to why he's not getting more snaps?

ZW stunk.  But that has nothing to do with why our WRs were being blanketed by backup DBs.

ZW had a ton of problems yesterday but he wasn't the only problem on the offensive side of the ball. Once again we see the RBs collapsing three yards past the LOS and coughing up the ball. The receivers dropping catchable balls. The receivers were draped with defenders a lot of the game. The OL was overall better than the week prior but still not great overall. The offensive play calling was predictable and lacked adjustments outside of the one good drive they had to score.

The play calling has the same feel as it did with LaFleur. Anytime something works they avoid repeating it and call plays that do not play to the strengths of the players. Is this a Saleh thing?

Look at how they've used GW this year. He's young and fast. He should be stretching the field with long routes. ZW is used to launching those long passes. If ZW can't throw accurately, try to take some DPI calls off his long misses. Instead GW is often camped out 5-10 yards from the LOS. His ball control is not great in that range. When he catches the ball, he's tackled immediately so there's little chance to take advantage of his speed and shift for YAC. It's a lose-lose setting him up there.

I think this has been pointed out but there's a whole thread with video and everything, of WR running wide ass open and not getting the ball. I don't think Hackett is good but the QB is so bad that he's singlehandedly torpedoing any chance of doing anything in the passing game.

Hackett certainly gets blame - yes

Absolutely.  The OC isn't great.  AND the QB sucks sh*t.  He sucked under the first OC, he's sucking under the 2nd, and he'll suck under his 3rd OC too.

You can only gameplan so much for a QB who can't grasp basic concepts and has a slow brain.  You just can't.

Hardman is trash , actually winced when i heard we signed him.

Oh also.....the team that is 3rd in the league in yards per game on offense, the Rams?  Who is there oc again?

I remember Romo pointed out several instances where there were receivers open (where ZW didn't throw the ball) but there were also a surprising number of instances where it felt like everyone was covered.  I don't know if it's our OC or if our WRs are just not good.

This has nothing to do with GW btw, who was guarded by the Pats' terrific rookie, Christian Gonzalez.

He probably is but he's also probably the fastest guy on the team.  We couldn't try a reverse?

You've been making strange excuses for Zach for the last several weeks so I find it hard to believe you made this thread for any other purpose.  Otherwise you'd have titled the thread "WR ineptitude" or whatever.

There were plenty of times somebody was open and ZW didn't see it because he was too late with his reads. He made a number of laughable decisions. I will say Hackett leaves a lot to be desired also. The product the Jets are putting on the field is not an NFL caliber offense.

Last several weeks?

No I haven't.  I said last week that he wasn't the main reason we lost (it was far more on the D, OL, and CS) but I haven't defended him beyond that.  In fact, last year, I was criticizing ZW when many on here were defending him during the win streak.

It's beyond the WRs though.  What about the CS?

Fine.  Last 2 weeks.

Zach has never been a top-3 reason this team won and has almost always been a top-3 reason when we lose.

I don't care about the WRs or even the CS today.  Today is about Joe Douglas' refusal to add a 3rd QB to date for a team who was one even subpar QB away from winning by 10+ points yesterday.

Last 2 weeks?!   Other than last week (which I still stand by my comments), where did I defend his play?

I agree that JD should've added a 3rd QB.  I still have no idea why he would go into any game (though especially one with this crappy OL!) with only 2 QBs.

And how is Tim Boyle ever on an NFL roster?  Look at his awful college stats.

Whatever dude.  However many days you defended him, you did it.

Some here have been screaming about beating dead horses and making excuses for Zach at every turn when there was hardly any good reason to.  Today, there is not ONE good reason to defend Zach Wilson.  Not one.

Later in the week feel free to direct your ire to others on the roster and in the CS and maybe I'll read about it and respond.  I'm not feeling it today.

Today is about crow eating time for those who obnoxiously defended one of the 1-2 worst QBs (with 17+ starts) the game has ever seen.

This team sucks. Breece shouldn't run his twitter fingers. He ran for nothing and had the ball sail through his hands on passes. Mekhi can't pass block. He got run through like Taco Bell. Sauce is playing like a rookie. Why do we have all this equity in first round d-line when we can't get to the QB.

"zach sucks. Zach is a bust". Sure sure. Let. The. Kid. Sling. It. Slant route after slant route isn't doing anyone any favors. let the kid go out and fall on his face throwing the damn ball.

FREE ZACH!!!

Let him fail or succeed while playing NFL QB. This handcuffed dummy offensive is clownish.

I will still defend what I said about him last week.

I'm not defending his play this week but I am saying the offense as a whole was embarrassing too.

Yes.  The offense is embarrassing and Zach is easily the largest driving force behind that embarrassment.  Glad we could settle that.

The only throw he can complete with any consistency is a f**kin slant route because he needs the WR to be open right in front of his stupid f**king face.
