Will McDonald thoughts (vs NE)

Recommended Posts

Why did they spend a 1st round pick on this guy again?

A top-15 pick they were high fiving themselves over on draft day can’t even dress on gameday?

The D produced 0 sacks and 0 turnovers vs NE.

Maybe they could have used him to get to McCorkle and force a fumble like he did like 100 times in college?

Does Saleh ever make a logical decision about anything?

Meanwhile we have to see Gonzalez traveling all over the field blanketing GW…

🤷‍♂️

Because we have a GM who is in love with his D minded HC. Who feels is more important to have deepest DL rotation in NFL history, than boost up the neglected Offense.

At least the obsession over the slot receiver has been put on pause.

JSN watch thru 3 weeks:  9 catches on 14 targets, 57 yards, 0 TDs, 4.1 yards per target.  Average depth of target:  2.7 yards.

Won;t change my mind, he will be a vastly better player than McDonald.  He is behind two legit high end wrs  in lockett and metcalfe.

Meanwhile we can look forward to our slot guy Randall Cobb and his 1 catch for 12 yards.

No, he’s in the slot where he belongs and likely always will belong.  Has little to do with the depth chart.

I agree brought this up last week heard many excuses many defending the pick.

Ive never seen so many poor early picks than the Jets in the last 12-13 years. From Kyle Wilson forward, has any organization had as many poor 1st and 2nd round picks????

Meanwhile we have the overly hyped up JJ.  I like the kid but he seems like a Lawson clone to me.  All I see him do is bull rush.  Huff and McDonald are the only edges on this team that get around tackles.

Ulbrich will have JJ, Lawson, Clemons, JFM all like up Wide 9 and crash the middle. Then we barely use actual pass rushers Huff and IV. Makes no sense. Ulbrich is lucky that Saleh is taking all the heat. He deserves as much criticism for such a vanilla defense.

Ulbrich is a meathead and brings nothing to the table. Other than Boyer, the entire coaching staff is a bunch of losers. Once they are all fired they will get demotions if they even remain in the NFL. Saleh is an excellent fraud/snake oil salesman but I think he will have to step down back to DC before he gets another HC job.

They’re finding out why Jermaine Johnson was available at 22 or whatever. Playing him at Wide 9 and asking him to beat LT1’s off the edge is killing Quinnen’s opportunities because you don’t have to help on Jermaine Johnson. You have to think he’s just a placeholder until McDonald gets his feet under him, and then he’ll go back into a rotational role with Huff on the strong side.

Yup. Jermaine looks like a solid player but not a difference maker.

McDonald showed more than enough in the preseason and camp to play him on obvious passing downs, at a bare minimum. Instead we are forced to watch JFM and Jermaine bull rush into a stonewall every snap. Jets are stupid.

Not a single player on this defense has looked great. We thought we had "dogs" all over the place on this defense. Not the case at all.

And I feel like there about to start getting really unmotivated with Saleh still rolling out Wilson there at QB showing that we don't actually care about winning.

JD wasted a 1st rounder for this season. It's one thing for a guy to barely contribute as a rookie. But to not even be good enough to be active when healthy shows how bad of a pick it was. I for one never lied to Mac pick. Not bc I didn't think he had skill. But because we didn't need a DE at all. So it was a waste of resources. At that rate we should've just traded GB 13 and been done with the that trade. Instead we stayed stubborn on not trading our 2023 1st rounder all to just draft a guy to have him inactive? Real smart.

Saleh and JD really need to be on the hot seat.

The rotation strategy last game was straight out moronic.  Not a single player on the DL played over 70% of the snaps, not even your 100 million dollar DT who has Aaron Donald game wrecking/changing ability.  You're essentially taking over quarter of the game away from your best player to make a play.  It's simple ******* odds.

Huff played 22%, on a day where they hit the QB, twice w/ no sacks.  Jefferson who has arguably been the most effective DLmen on the team, played 32%....oh go figure, he hit the QB.  Lawson played 21%.

And w/ that, as I'm looking at the snaps counts; Will McDonald played, lmfao.  He got 11 snaps, not that I noticed them but...he played.  .

PICK NO. 15: NEW YORK JETS: EDGE WILL MCDONALD IV

Overall Rookie Grade: 66.9 (Rank: N/A)
Principal Opponent: Vederian Lowe
Week 3 Snaps: 10
Week 3 Grade: 64.9

McDonald played 10 defensive snaps and contributed on special teams a week after being held out as a healthy scratch. He did collect his first NFL pressure, a hurry, against New England, but he’s finding it difficult to secure playing time among a loaded Jets edge group. It’s hard to see McDonald taking on a consistent role without a standout performance or injury to someone in front of him.

This is the one that kills me. I liked the Al Woods signing because the run defense was a little leaky, but he provides absolutely nothing as a pass rusher
