Cimini: Jets Locker Room not Happy With Saleh Protecting Zach Wilson

Zach-Wilson-sacked-by-Barmore.jpg

The ongoing struggles of Zach Wilson are well documented at this point and head coach Robert Saleh isn’t helping his locker room by protecting the young quarterback.  This, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York.

On the latest episode of his flight deck podcast, Cimini says he “knows for a fact” that there is tension in Gang Green’s locker room where players view Saleh as an “apologist” for his public comments on his young quarterback.  Of course Saleh knows Wilson’s limitations says  Cimini, but trying to help preserve what’s left of his confidence through public praise isn’t going over well.

The defense specifically, says Cimini, is less than thrilled after coming under fire for not creating any turnovers despite allowing just 13 points to the Patriots offense.

The long-time Jets beat writer also added “it’s going to be one of those years” when the Jets start a myriad of quarterbacks while adding that he believes Wilson’s time in New York is on life support.  “Barring a miracle turnaround”, Cimini says Wilson is finished in New York.

Why is Saleh protecting defending Wilson?

I don't think this is the reason but Saleh is next in the line of fire from the fans once ZW gets benched.

Don’t worry Saleh will fix all of this with a great speech about commanders and eagles with crows on their backs and stuff

He's taking receipts!

"So, as I've said before, I respect the heck out of the urgency from the fans and the wanting to flip this thing, but in fairness, this is the first time this fanbase is actually experiencing something like this. Usually it's been a quick fix, followed by a scramble. This is an actual plan. I feel like [general manager] Joe [Douglas] is doing a phenomenal job with a really, really concise plan on how to build from the ground up and there's a lot of exciting pieces on this team that are hidden in these losses. But when you sit back and watch it from our perspective and the combination of veterans and youth, it's definitely going in the right direction and eventually, while frustrating today, is going to be awesome when this thing gets flipped."

Still waiting Robert.

Okay so now the ny media is piling on as anyone knew they would.  Because joe willie came out with it on the Michael Kay show?  Not that the media is wrong but they like to build things up and then tear them down.

IMO the problem with the jets is they have no on field leadership, especially on offense.  Zach is clearly not a leader.  Rodgers is but he’s not there to keep them in line and there aren’t any other vets to step up into the role.  Douglas made it a point to draft high character guys and I’m guessing he looked for the same traits with the free agents.  But high character doesn’t mean they’re leaders. It can mean they’ll show up everyday and work.  But showing up and working isn’t enough.

The redundant part of all this is... how many teams are ok with there starting QB getting knocked out week 1, 4 plays in and rolling with there backup for the whole season? 0 is pretty much the answer. If there are teams... they either didn't have a good starting QB to start (we did with Rodgers). Or there expectations were low (ours were high).

Yes Wilson is trash. Yes Saleh is sounding more and more like an idiot every time he supports him. Yes Hackett is trash without Rodgers. But that's what we're dealing with. I think this is classic of thinking the grass is greener on the other side. And pretty much anyone we would bring in off the street wasn't going to save our season. What we need to do is change. What we're doing on offense isn't working. So change it. The season is gone. It was done 5 minutes into week 1. So take chances and make the offense at least fun and risky. Let Wilson take 5-10 shots down field a game. Get creative getting playmakers the ball. Handing the ball off for 1.5 yard gains 2 of the 3 plays and taking a sack or just running around and throwing the ball away the other play is losing everyone. From fans, to players and is likely to cost guys there jobs on the staff. So change.

Saleh's in kind of a tight situation bc his defense is consistently basically legit but then you have Zach Wilson torpedoing all of that, multiple years now

i agree ... and "Basically Legit" ... is the perfect way to describe it.  12 Pass rushers and crap pressure the last two weeks.

There were plenty of fans saying we needed a better backup than ZW before the season even started.

The change that needs to be made is removing him from the lineup.

So there’s only two people supporting Wilson. His mom and coach Saleh.

And even his Mom is wavering.

I mean just consider that she's gone 10 whole days without criticizing Jets fans on social media.  A new record for her.

Like the patrons of that fake restaurant in the old bathhouse, entering October with the sole QB help being the addition of Siemian made the joke a bit too obvious that this is a fake football season.

Upon realizing? Some players just mentally quit, some get wasted or otherwise laugh it off, and one devoid of a sense of humor was bitter enough to throw a football at Saleh’s head.

While the culprit’s identity is yet unknown we can probably start eliminating those who are surely innocent. The only clue leaked thus far is that the ball was quickly thrown on time and on target, hitting the coach in stride while he was wide open past the first down marker.

So you are saying Zach is innocent?

I'd like double confirmation...

1. Did the thrower look off the target before throwing?

2. Was Saleh really the target?

If the answers are no, no then I know who it is.
