Kaep’s letter to Joe Douglas

Recommended Posts

Sign him to the practice squad, Joey, and let him run the scout team 😊

Nothing to lose at this point 🤷‍♂️

Kaepernick’s full letter

Joe,

I hope this letter finds you in great spirits, despite the less-than-ideal start to a big season. I’m wishing you, your staff, and the players a great game this weekend as you look to bounce back.

I’m writing, of course, in response to the unfortunate loss of Aaron Rodgers. I know the aspirations this season were, and still are, to win a championship, and so that Hall of Fame sized hole will need to be filled as best as possible to keep the team on a Super Bowl track. As of right now, Zach Wilson is charged with that task, and I wish him and the rest of the team the best moving forward.

However, I know that there are currently depth issues at the position, and I’ve heard that the back-up spot is likely to be filled by a veteran Quarterback. As much as I would love the opportunity to fill that spot, I’m writing you in hopes that you can imagine a much different approach involving me; I would be honored and extremely grateful for the opportunity to come in and lead the practice squad. I would do this with the sole mission of getting your defense ready each week. If I were able to fill this role for the team, I believe this allows for multiple things.

1. It gives your Defense the advantage of getting a truer read on the more mobile/athletic/versatile quarterbacks it will face when in weeks 4, 5 and 6 (Mahomes, Wilson, and Hurts). I would consider it a privilege to be able to do this and would take on this responsibility with the dedication and passion as if it were the QB1 position.

2. This would also allow you guys as an organization to take a real look at where I’m at football wise, in game-like situations against an elite defense, while also not putting any competitive pressure on Zach. I understand the importance of keeping him confident and focused as QB1, and I would only look to boost that confidence in any interactions that we may have if I was given this role within the team.

In a perfect world for the Jets, Zach Wilson finds his stride and shows that he is able to lead this championship caliber team that you’ve put together to the Super Bowl. I believe a confident Zach Wilson has the tools to do this. However, in the event that this is not the case, I would love to offer you a risk-free contingency plan.

I am sure of my ability to provide you with an elite QB option if, God forbid, QB1 goes down. However, I know that there may naturally be uncertainties from you and possibly from others about my playing abilities. This plan, I believe, allows me to be of great service to the team as a practice squad QB, while also giving you a low-commitment chance to assess my capabilities to help in any other capacity you may see fit.

Worst case scenario, you see what I have to offer and you’re not that impressed. Best case scenario, you realize you have a real weapon at your disposal in the event you ever need to use it. In either of these scenarios, I would be committed to getting your defense ready week in and week out, all season long, and I would wear that responsibility like a badge of honor.

As a final point, I would like to add this.

Unlike many of the veteran QB’s that have been named in the media, I’ve never retired or stopped training. My training schedule has remained the same for 6 years; Monday through Friday, 5am-8am training on the field and in the weight room. I’ve kept this training schedule without failure for the past 6 years, in hopes that an opportunity will present itself. I say this to give you some perspective on where I’m at physically.

I have also attached a list of my references within the league that will vouch for my character, work ethic and ability.

Thanks so much for your time.

Colin Kaepernick

If that was a letter to Joe Douglas,  why is it on this message board?

Just curious.

Because it was sent weeks ago and they didn’t get the response, if there was any at all, that they had hoped for. Hail Mary effort that maybe the fan base would get behind the idea and force the jets to sign this guy? Def never had a chance, but only reason why Kap’s people would release this I’d assume. The problem is, this is New York, this team is terrible, has been terrible and yet is still always talked about.  You cannot put him on this roster and it fly under the radar. He is just too big of a distraction even if you want to disregard all of the politics (which you can’t). His career is done. He took his stand, he put his football career at risk, and it didn’t work out. The last thing this franchise needs right now is a side show attraction on top of all the other issues it’s dealing with.

You're completely underestimating what a good side show means to the circus.

Sure Kap is being blackballed by the NFL. There's no reason a team wouldn't have signed him at least for a try out or practice squad job he has the credentials to play in the NFL. Maybe because he sued them and won a settlement but a lot of it is political. But he just was put on a negotiation list with the BC Lions and he could have and still can play in another league and if he plays well maybe get a chance again in the NFL.

I'm also being blackballed by the NFL.

Dear Colin,

I must say, your audacity is truly remarkable. Your letter reeks of desperation, and I can't help but wonder if you've been living in a fantasy world for the past few years.

Let's be clear – the New York Jets have absolutely no interest in bringing you on board in any capacity. Your mention of filling a "Hall of Fame sized hole" is laughable. Comparing yourself to Aaron Rodgers? That's nothing short of delusional.

Your suggestion that you would "boost Zach Wilson's confidence" is almost comical. We have every confidence in our quarterback, unlike your confidence in yourself. Your self-proclaimed "risk-free contingency plan" is nothing but a pipe dream.

As for your references within the league, it's quite amusing that you think they carry any weight with us. Frankly, we couldn't care less about what they have to say.

In short, Colin, your letter has provided us with a good laugh, but that's about it. You have no place on our team, and your attempt to position yourself as some kind of savior is nothing short of absurd.

Good luck in your continued pursuit of a football career, but it won't be happening here.

Sincerely,

Joe Douglas

I'd sign Kap as QB1 and Hunter Biden as his backup if it means never having to watch Zach again.

I think this is exactly why we should sign Kaeptain America. Right now, the biggest headlines with the Jets, are Taylor Swift coming to town and how much Zach sucks.

If we sign Kaep to the PS, think of how that changes the narrative. No one will be talking about how much Zach sucks or Aaron Rodgers. The focus will shift entirely in the media.

This is a distraction that I believe to be helpful. Zach can return to confidence building redshirting, AR can heal up. No one will care anything about the jets other than Kaep. It will be all the talk.

Why not let him be the sacrificial distraction for the media so that the team can actually just focus on its issues and getting set up for next season.

Sign this beast!

i think this guy would have been back if he had just kept his statement to kneeling a few times but i guess he went a bit too far and he's blackballed. he's been out of the league so long i doubt he can still really play the position at the level required. that said....he's likely still better than zach wilson, lol

I am apolitical and posted about Kaep from a football POV.

But it's ironic that every stadium in the league (on the back white of the end zone) and player helmets started having some token message, some of which are akin to what he was blackballed for, like:

"End Racism"

"It Takes All of Us"

Goodell and the owners freeze out Kaep for undesirable messaging, then a few years later (after George Floyd), they go on to not only adopt but actively promote some of the same ideas (when it benefits their bottom line and doesn't hurt their PR).

The NFL got on board when it became marketable and required no accountability.
