Jaxon Smith-Njigba

I think he’s being eased in after being hurt.

Nobody is going to like this, but WR, C, TE and LB were the areas to target in this draft class. TE specifically reminds me of Idzik draft passing in all those WR. Just bad business.

All 4 WR taken after pick 15 look legit a few weeks in. Time will tell, ultimately.

Has anyone been watching him?  If so, has he looked like a guy we should regret passing up on?  I see he's got 9 receptions for 57 yards and 0 TDs so far.

9 catches would put him 2nd on the team in receptions. Considering the don’t use Hardman, Cobb is basically robbing the team, and Lazard is a jag if you ordered one from wish. The Jets have one good receiver and their 1st round pick in behind the corpse of Carl Lawson.

We absolutely need another WR.  If you subtract GW, our WR group would be bottom-tier.

He was hurt in preseason.

He's the Seahawks #3 WR behind two legit every-down studs in Metcalf and Lockett.

Our own #3 WR currently has 1 catch for 6 yards.

And the guy we picked instead of him has....1 tackle, total.

But it's early, for both guys.  Far too early for judging how their respective careers will go.

/shrug, I can understand if people didn't like JSN ("slot WR only!"), and he may never become what guys like me (and G. Wilson) think he will.  I understand if people prefer the Jets long-standing draft focus on Defensive linemen year after year after year, I suppose, although I think McDonald sitting is a bad look for JD.

End of the day, it is what it is, we picked McDonald, lets hope he's a stud, and JSN is irrelevant.  I very much wanted him, very much thought he's better than Lazard (7/108/0, so not a ton better than JSN so far) and Hardman (1/6/0) for our future.  But it didn't happen.  Time to move on.

And certainly not a time for taking victory "told you so" laps, lol.

Drafts are always a crapshoot. even in a wr heavy, te heavy, qb heavy (what have you) you can easily miss on one of those positions. And if you are selecting early enough, positions that arent heavy in said draft can yield you a really really good player as well.

McDonald looks like a super talented player. I know he's not getting much playing time right now but I'm optimistic based on what I saw in preseason and camp. His time will come.

Its rare for a WR to establish themselves as world beaters out of the gate ... Chase and Wilson are the exception.

This used to be true, but not anymore;

Flowers, Addison, Nacua, Reed, Dell

Agreed.  RB seems to be the quickest transition but WR is pretty quick too.

He is behind two good Wrs in lockett and metcalfe, he was hurt in camp for a bit.

He is going to be a clone of Amon Ra St Brown

By the end of this year or early next when we are looking at Cobbs 10 catches for the year and mcdonalds 2 sacks there will be a lot of head slapping realization.

I was not a fan of JSN in the draft.  Injury history concerned me.  Young guy missing a season with a hamstring injury.  But given where we are at right now, with Mcdonald barely getting on the field, and losing Corey Davis in camp.  With the benefit of hindsight, I am sorry we didn't go JSN or Jordan Addison, who I preferred.

I wonder if the Jets had known that Davis would not play, would they have gone JSN instead.

It's early.  The argument for JSN over McDonald is primarily on need (which I get given the depth of the Jets DL and lack of it at WR), but from a grading and talent standpoint I think both are very similar.  JD seems to have taken a guy a year before he needs him (expecting Lawson to depart after this year), but that's a bit surprising given this was supposedly a Win Now movement with AR onboard.

Only time will tell but I am very quickly moving towards the "Play the Young Guys" camp given this 1-2 (and likely 1-3) start.  Put Lawson and Cobb on the shelf.  Get McDonald more reps at DE, especially when you can move JFM inside on 3rd and long situations.  Get Xavier Gipson on the field for offensive plays, even if they're gimmicky jet sweeps and stuff to start.  He just seems like a kid who you want to put the ball in his hands.  The Jets finally got Tippmann out there (out of necessity).  Time to do it with some of the other younger guys IMO.  They can't possibly be more invisible than Cobb and Lawson have been so far.

If Corey Davis retired before the draft he's the pick

Hadn't thought of that.  You're probably right.

This was a team with that had Garrett Wilson and Corey Davis, and then signed Lazard, Hardman (and eventually Cobb later).  But it felt like a somewhat full boat of WRs heading into the Draft with a lot of Aaron Rodgers' desired players.  AR's patience for rookie WRs hasn't been particularly stellar either so maybe all of this factored in.

One of the top WRs in the NFL in avg separation per nextgen stats.

Not seeing targets because Seattle has a ton of weapons but he'd be far more valuable to the Jets than he is to the Seahawks.

Interesting to hear.  For the record, I wasn't trying to make fun of JSN (I see I got a couple of laughing emojis on my original post).  I was legitimately asking.

What you wrote is good info to support the case.

He wouldn’t have those numbers on this team. ZW won’t throw the ball down field

Can’t. He is way to scared to hold the ball that long, he has to keep his eye on the rush before he pisses his 👖
