Sauce publicly calls out the ref

The call in question came on a third-and-20 during which Patrick Mahomes lofted a pass into Marquez Valdes-Scantling. The receiver was double-covered on the play and the ball wasn't thrown particularly well, which allowed it to be intercepted by Michael Carter.

However, Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner was whistled for holding on the play. That resulted in a five-yard penalty that gave New York a first down and extended the drive.

Gardner made it known after the game that he vehemently disagreed with the call, explaining to reporters what he believed had happened during a postgame news conference.

"The receiver ran into me," Gardner said. "There was a collision — same thing that was happening all game but no flags — Pat threw the ball outside of the receiver. [Michael Carter] was there. He made the play. Then the ref threw the flag."

Gardner likened the call to crying for a foul while playing pickup basketball only after you know that you have missed a shot. He described the penalty as "crazy" and lamented that it came at such an important point in the game.

"I don't even think they threw the ball my way, at me, for the first three quarters," he said. "Then they started throwing checkdowns. Then the shot that they take that's not going and they finally get bailed out by that? Fourth quarter, crunch time. I don't even know what to say."

This isn’t about blown calls or mistakes..the NFL rigged a game on national TV tonight to push a storyline about a pop star..WWE level sh%#t….they made it so obvious that it may backfire …they may have actually jumped the shark in terms of scripts and narratives.

I can see why it was called if they were calling it all game. The timing of it is what irks me. 

A lot of times there's a delay in when they throw the flag. They need to think about it for a second or can't pull it out for whatever reason. It happens often.

But in this play it very much looked like a reaction to the Jets intercepting it.

There were bad calls in our favor earlier in the game fwiw. Horse collar, facemask safety didn't start in end zone.

It was not only about that play, there were blatant holds all night long they did not call on KC I think there was a hold on that very play right in front of the camera.

There was also the play With JJ personal foul where the guy on KC had hands to his face during the entire play nearly tearing off his helmet and when he finally pushed him off he got called for the PF.

Not a fan of the Phillies but good on Harper for going ballistic about the egregiously bad call by Fernandez the other day and good on Sauce for calling it out today. 

 

They think they are above reproach or people won't volunteer to umpire at grass roots level. Bullsh*t. They need to do their jobs properly.

Sauce needs to learn to play less handsy. He’s committing fouls on almost every play. Jets fans will refuse to see it, because blaming the Refs for losses is a thing we all love to do, but it’s gonna be a problem for him going forward.

Im amazed we didn’t get several roughing the passer calls tonight, as often as we were hitting Mahomes after he’d thrown the ball. The Refs easily could have called several the way the league tends to call that penalty nowadays, especially for its star QB’s..

Then later Pacheco did the same thing after the play was over, way late, no flag. 

You cant let Refs dictate a game that much, it's unwatchable garbage and you cant help but question what @Jolot is saying.  I've never seen so much coverage for a spectator in my life.  The Jets get celebrities at their games every week and some prepubescent teenage boy who wears red lip stick and plays terrible music shows up and suddenly it's the most important spectator in the history of sports?

I know some folks are saying the Jets got some lucky calls too...and true but 4 first downs on penalties for the Chiefs, 2 of them on 3rd and long, and the Jets had 1 penalty for a first down and that's not even mentioning the amount of holds they let go on the LOS.

The Chiefs got the star treatment and the Jets were treated like the Jets.

This is Sauce’s game.  He does it all the time.  It’s rarely called.  It should be called more often.   Didn’t need that in that situation.   Hated the call only because they have allowed him to do it since he stepped on the field.

Worst call of the game was the horse collar on the Chiefs.   The rule on the safety was iffy.

They also need to take some of the judgement out of grounding.  If they are going to overly protect the QB in the pocket they have to get the ball to the LOS or complete the pass.  Receiver in the area is a big judgement call they don’t need.  They should have called that.

Just like many of the rules in the NFL, grounding is completely nonsensical.  You can spike the ball to clock it an it's not grounding.  You can toss the ball in the 30th row in the endzone, not grounding.  You can throw the ball at the feet of your OL and point to a RB, not grounding.

That would've been ok, was his whole point. He played the same all game long, and they wait until the game-changing interception late in the 4th quarter, with Mahomes chuck & ducking it into triple coverage that wouldn't have been completed 1-on-3 anyway, and then they first call it with a late flag after the pick. 

If they're going to call it all the time on him, fine then call it. But to let it go and then call it only on him and only when - excuse me, after - the game-changing defensive play happens is bush league garbage, and that was the entire point of Sauce's criticism, and he's 100% right.

I just keep picturing how the ref throws the flag immediately after it was intercepted. Just pure bullsh*t. You can’t beat the refs. What was that refs name? 
 

Also, JJ nearly got sexual assaulted and of course no holding call.

Agree that Sauce plays that way all the time. There were poor calls on both teams, Jets were on the losing end of most. I can’t get over JJ getting mugged…..no call there is terrible.

 

Sauce needs to clean it up a bit, turn his head faster, it’s a theme for him.

respectfully disagree , 15 years on this board I rarely if ever whine about refs …this was different last night , it looked and smelled different, purposeful corruption to drive the Taylor Swift narrative …nobody will ever convince me otherwise …the fix was in , and I’m not a guy who makes claims like that . This was different.

most good or great CBs are handsy and will get flagged once or twice a game. Revis was only 1 I’ve seen who can be a blanket on a WR without committing near penalties every play. Sounds like sauce tipped what he’s been doing, trying to get in way of WRs, which is sometimes called on cb.
