Bryce Huff Future

Huff has improved from being a very good situational edge rusher to basically playing at an elite level while getting more early down reps which has been great to see.  Very rare to have an UDFA progress to this level - not the interesting part, what do we do going forward.

JD has invested a LOT of draft capital in edge rusher with JJ and McDOnald but at the same time has Lawson's contract coming off the books at the same time Huff is a free agent.  Huff also currently makes $4.3 million on a 1 year deal.

The most recent comparable edge signing in the league is Alex Highsmith from Pittsburg who had a breakout season last year with 14 sacks and signed the following deal:

Alex Highsmith signed a four year, $68 million contract extension with the Steelers on July 20, 2023. Highsmith has $27.743 million in guaranteed salary of which $17.01 million is fully guaranteed including a $16 million signing bonus.

However I think the Quincy Williams contract situation is a better comparison as Highsmith's $$$ numbers are just too high for Huff, even as good as he is.  I just cant imagine that if you offer Huff 4 years and $30 million today that he turns it down but who knows.  Just thought its a very pertinent topic given how he has played.

You can't pay huff a lot.  You cant, he has 8.5 career sacks,  He doesn't play enough.  We drafted two high pick edge guys the last two years.

Highsmith is very good and has 3 times as many sacks.  If Huff was on pitt?  He might have way more sacks.

I like Huff a lot but unless you can Saleh and Ulbrecht you are not going to get the value from the contract you have to give.

Im resigning this guy.  He is your best pass rusher currently.  While Macdonald has a lot of potential, hes awfully light in the ass and will struggle in the run game.   Lawson is gone in 2024 and really dont see JFM continuing to get paid his current contract in 2024. While Clemmons is a fan favorite, not sure his production matches his hype.  Cannot see Saleh letting this guy out of the building with the way he values D lineman
