Chargers at NY Jets – The Betting Line

Justin Herbert

The NY Jets host the Los Angeles Chargers this week on Monday night. It’s the fourth week in a row that the Jets will not be on the road. This includes the Jets bye week and the fact that although they were technically the road team against the Giants, the Jets didn’t leave to play a game outside MetLife stadium. The Jets pushed last week, winning in overtime to move their mark against the spread to 4-2-1. The Chargers hammered the Bears in Los Angeles to improve to 3-4 against the spread. The oddsmakers must be scratching their heads a bit with these two teams. Both have been a bit Jekyll and Hyde. The Jets have now won three straight games after dropping three straight contests. The Chargers lost their first two games of the season; then they won two straight matchups, then lost two in a row again before winning against the Bears last week. Despite the inconsistent play of these teams, we feel solid in our take on the matchup. Get involved this Monday and check out sites outlined at CasinoDeps portal.

Los Angeles Chargers at New York Jets (+3)

The league could market this game as the Enigma Bowl. The Chargers are talent-laden, but they have been unable to win with any consistency. The Jets are solid on defense, but there is no way to know how much they will get from their offense from week to week. What we do know is that the Chargers will lean on standout quarterback Justin Herbert. Herbert threw for three touchdowns last week against the Bears. Herbert was sacked just once by Chicago. The Chargers have allowed just 15 sacks for the season, placing them eighth in the league in sacks allowed. The Jet defense will need to find ways to put pressure on Herbert. He is too talented to be comfortable in the pocket. The Jets’ inconsistency stems from their quarterback. Zach Wilson had strung together three straight games where he was a positive for the team. That ended last week against the Giants as Wilson was atrocious. This line opened at -1 but after the Jets survived a messy, mistake-filled game in overtime and the Chargers blasted the Bears, the line jumped to -3.

The Bottom Line

It’s hard to trust either of these teams, given their up-and-down natures. Los Angeles hasn’t beaten a winning team this season. Beating the Jets would be their biggest victory to date. The combined record of the teams the Chargers have beaten currently stands at 9-15. The Jets can boast of wins against the Bills and Eagles, but the Jets were shut down by the Patriots and escaped against the 2-6 Giants. The Chargers are seventh in the league in offense, but their defense is second to last, allowing 390 yards per game. The Chargers score 24.9 points per game, but they allow 24. The Jets score 18 points per game while they allow 18.4.

The Chargers can’t make a living Monday night with the pass. The Jets secondary will not allow it. The Chargers can pile up yardage on the ground with Austin Eckler, but can they score enough to offset their weak defense? The Jets have faced better competition thus far; they are more physical, and the Jets have played well against elite-level teams. New York plays down to weak teams, and their weak quarterback play makes them a slight underdog at home. We are taking the points, especially if we can find an outlet willing to give the Jets +3.5. The Jets will find enough offense to win against the struggling Los Angeles defensive unit. Improved weather, more time, and more open wideouts will allow Zach Wilson to return to at least a neutral impact on the game while the Jets ride the running game to another close win. Take the points with the Jets and grab the Jets at +138 on the money line.
