I think teams keep running because we don't score and they can be patient and wait to pop some runs and maybe hit a big play here or there. If the Jets had a competent offense and were getting up a couple of scores while the defense smothers the opposing offense they'd be forced to pass more and take more chances.

The Raiders didn't really have much success running until later in the game yesterday but they were able to keep trying. They had one drive with a few 4/5 yard runs in the first half but I never felt like they were just running all over us.

They were patient, but at the end of the game they ended up with 148 yards rushing. With O'Connell with 3 yards. So it wasn't a scrambling type of situation.

We have the #3 passing defense in the league, in a league built around passing. There is nothing average about that.

This is a great defense.

Awesome, and that's with a game where they had -9 yards. You must feel proud of them, like watching your son getting a hit in Little League in a blowout game.

not sure why you mention O'Connell. My point is just that teams wouldn't be able to attempt so many runs if we had a competent offense.

Jacobs rushed for 4.1 per carry against the Lions but only got 15 carries for example.

This team is bad. The team is a punt return against the Bills and a miraculous late comeback against the Giants away from sitting with the 5th pick in the draft right now and the worst SOS of two win teams (the actual two win teams are all 2-8). The quarterback is an enormous problem, but the issues run far deeper than just him.

Ultimately it comes back to the GM who assembled this roster over four offseasons with a whole bunch of assets - and insisted on not upgrading the backup over the aforementioned QB. The offensive line isn't good, there are two dangerous skill players, and he was spending premium draft capital on a designated pass rusher who barely gets on thee field this year.

Because they ran for 4.6 yards per carry, and that number isn't skewed by what O'Connell did. This is an average defense, that teams can exploit by not deviating from their game plan. They don't have to pass because they can grind by running the ball and wearing this defense down.

The Jets don't have a competent offense because of the QB, WR outside of GW, TEs, RBs and the OL. Could Aaron lift this offense up, most definitely.

At the end of the day if the opposing team need a yard they are going to get it. Because the Jets give 40% 3rd conversions for 22nd in the league. You know who is dead last in giving up 1st downs on 4th down? This team can't get off the field.

I said it when we signed Rodgers.  Rodgers will get both Saleh and Douglas fired.

They will run this back next year, will get similiar results and everyone is gone.

If Saleh and Douglas couldn't get it done with Aaron Rodgers (next year), they were not going to get it done with anyone else.

The defense is 7th in dvoa and IMO would be ranked higher if the offense would do their part. For a team that can't get off the field we don't give up many points.

They give up 19.1 points a game. that is good, but scoring is down overall. There are 9 team that have allowed less than 20 points per game, there were 4 last year. They Jets were one of them at 18.6 points a game.
