Broncos Get New Grass

Recommended Posts

People here have VERY short memories.

We had grass and it was a sloppy mud fest that everyone bitched about.

They changed it midseason and it was like Woodstock 94 mosh pit of slop.

You can't have grass on a field that is shared and is played on as much as ours.

Especially in a wet/cold environment.

A smart business decision. Your own team plays on your own turf 8 or 9 times each season (not including preseason), other teams play on it only once. That increases odds of injury for your own team dramatically. Jets aren’t that smart to protect their own.

And some teams play on their own turf more than 8-9 times a season. Jets don’t seemed to need to worry about that.

Yes you can.

Things have changed since the 1960s 😃

It’s like most things.  It comes down to technology and cost.

Tottenham has some hyper-sophisticated system with multiple layers, I think, where they can swap things out semi-automatically.

All EPL games there are on immaculate real grass, and for the NFL games they have a system for switching to turf.

Old Giants stadium switched to grass during the Herm years and it was a slop fest.  The grass would come up in clumps between the hash marks.

EPL teams are able to do it in the fog, rain and trashy weather there.

The pitch looks absolutely perfect for every match.

And it’s not as if most stadiums are domed billion dollar palaces like Tottenham.

I figure a league of multi-Billionaires should be able to figure it out.

There was a tray system installed some time ago for soccer games being played in the Meadowlands. The sections are raised up off the surface on a structure and the sections or trays are replaced from underneath. The Jets and Giants tried it one year but the grass was atrocious and didn’t hold up. The company got the contract so late that they didn’t have enough time to get any long term growth on the grass and it didn’t hold up. The other problem is the Jets don’t own the stadium alone and any changes have to be ok’d by both teams. Doesn’t mean with a longer time frame to grow stronger grass it can’t work. 🤷‍♂️
