Zach Wilson era Over as QB Demoted to QB3 Behind Boyle, Siemian

Recommended Posts

It’s safe to say the Zach Wilson era is over with the New York Jets.  According to the New York Post, Wilson has been demoted to the team’s third QB slot, a place he should have been all season.  Wilson will be on the active roster this Friday against the Dolphins but only as the team’s emergency quarterback.  This means Wilson can only enter the game if both Tim Boyle, the team’s new starter, and backup Trevor Siemian are injured.

All of this of course after Wilson was benched in Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills.

It’s been a rough season for Wilson who, despite showing early signs of life, didn’t improve nearly enough to hold on to the starting job as the Jets offense holds the worst third-down conversion rate in NFL history.  So bad is Wilson that the Jets are turning to a career backup in Boyle who, between college and the NFL, has thrown just 15 touchdown passes on 602 pass attempts over the past decade.

Behind Boyle will be veteran Trevor Siemian whom the Jets added back in late September.  Siemian has appeared in 35 games as a pro, throwing 42 touchdowns to 28 interceptions while completing 59% of his passes.  With Wilson relegated to number three status, the Jets had to add Siemian to their active roster or risk having him poached by another club and being stuck with only Zach Wilson to turn to on Friday.
