This article nails exactly whats going on

Call me a conspiracy theorist.

  • Woody did not want to pay Darnold year 5 and preferred to roll with a new QB on rookie contract with some curb appeal.
  • JD and Saleh were hired to build a sustainable winner like SF, Ravens, Steelers.
  • Woody wanted Rodgers and told JD and Saleh to do everything it took to bring in Rodgers.
  • Woody was focused on selling tickets and making money, not winning.  So paying money for a QB2 when he already had a QB on the roster with a $9mm cap hit was not acceptable.
  • JD blew his chance and building a sustainable winner by blowing the LT (Becton) and QB (Wilson) picks.  So he should have been shown the door, but he bought into the Rodgers plan.
  • JD should be let go if the goal was to start building a team again.  But the goal is to bring Rodgers back in 2024-2025, so JD will go along with that.  He will be judged on how that team does.  So he will not be taking a QB.

Downstream of the Rodgers injury.  Not the Rodgers plan. We saw yet another Achilles blow-out on the MetLife field yesterday.

It was bad luck for the Jets.  All involved in the Rodgers deal may have considered that he may miss some time, but I can't see anyone thinking he'd bust his ass four plays into the season.

Yeah, if only Rodgers had stayed healthy, we’d be sitting pretty with Lazard, Cobb, Cook, and Hackett

Injuries is always the excuse. So when injuries derail next year do they all get a pass again? This is football dudes will get hurt especially o line, rodgers is 40 like what are we expecting to happen next year?

I could live with them throwing a hail mary on Rodgers to save their jobs after putting together a roster that couldn't make the playoffs and hoping he could actually save them..

..but going out and getting a 40 year old QB who's never exactly been known for mobility then putting him behind the line they assembled (and this was before the injuries) was idiotic and should have cost JD his job.

...and that's before we get to not having a viable backup when you're pushing all the chips in...

The thing about guys like Burrow going down is that it's a one year blip. Rodgers was going to be here for 1 or 2 years (at most). Now we get to watch Joe Douglas who has assembled some truly awful offensive lines in this time here try to put one together in a single offseason with his job on the line. This could scorch the team for years afterwards with him throwing money and assets in desperation.

If the regime believed this, then the regime has to go because the regime is comprised of some serious brain damage, super inflated egos or both.  They gambled on Wilson yet again.  They lost yet again.  They learned NOTHING from the past 2 years' failures with Zach.  They allowed this incompetent to be the back up QB on a win-now team.

I 100% think that they believed it.  Their actions sure suggest that they did.  My complaint about Saleh before this season is that he plays conservative offensively so as not too over-stress his defense.  Just keep the game close and count on someone to make a play late to win the game.  That might have worked in the 70s, but it doesn't work today.   We won some unlikely games that way early and reinforced his belief that we were good enough to win with the guys we had.

And now we are seeing the disastrous result of that mis-judgement.  Too much faith in Wilson, too much faith in defense to win games.  And now everything is broken.  The offense is historically inept.  Defense continues to fight, but you could see their spirit being broken yesterday as the game got out of reach.  D gets us 6 points.  Then gets us the ball back again just before the half.  The Fail Mary broke them.

The next 6 will be just like the last 4, but I think the D gets worse.

Burrow has never had a full camp cause of injuries.  Also has ended 2 seasons on ir.  Burrows injury issues are not a blip.

JD is the biggest liability on this team, bar none. He deserves to be fired. But then what? Who would want to replace him? Who would want to work for Woody Johnson? JD strikes me as the sort of person who will not go quietly. Jets beat reporters would have a field day. Woody doesn't want that, so for that reason alone, JD is not going to get fired. If he did, Woody would just hire the next Terry Bradway, who will want to hire a new coach. Woody can't afford to have Arodge go negative on him, so Arodge will have a lot of say so in who the next HC would be.

This is like some bizarre Mexican standoff the team is in. There are no ideal solutions, really no way out. The end of last season was the time to sh*tcan JD and let the new GM pick his own HC. Too late, now.

JD is not fixing this O-line in one season, folks. He couldn't do it in 4, he's not going to do it now. If Rodgers does play next year, he will get injured and miss games. You're looking at a 6 win season, next year.

Now count up all of the opportunity cost JD as pissed away because he's an idiot.

The key thing you wrote is that rodgers is going to get injured and miss games.  Yes he will.  Who replaces him in those games now?

Half the posters have realized this 2-3 weeks ago.  I realized it when we signed him He’s Favre 2.0. It failed then, will fail now.

The Packers told AR GFY.

Think the Steelers would accommodate him?  Fukk AR.
