They've had free agent OC Trey Teague (Bills) and free agent OTs Anthony Clement (49ers) and Mike Pearson (Jaguars) in for visits.
Fred Jetstone
All these minor signings are smoke screens. I wonder what the Jets really have in mind. Maybe they'll surprise us all and snag a guy like Vernon Davis or Haloti Ngata. At this point, I can honestly say that it wouldn't surprise me who they drafted, from Jay Cutler to Jay Leno. GREENSMACKS
it would be a hard helmet to make with that chin on leno, alot of the moves all point to the jets getting a QB. jets problem wasnt on D as much as O
124
With the signing of Kassell and having guys back there like Hobson / Chatham to compete and moving BT back there to join McClover as the back-up OLB's the only real need in the draft at LB now is a back-up ILB that can be found in the 3rd / 4th maybe even later rounds so that position is out of the way. OT / C's are both mentioned there. I really would like to bring in BOTH, Trey Teague and Mike Pearson but we could still take D'Brickashaw Ferguson at 4. Why? Well here's why: Kendall can switch back to G with Teague plugging the middle and Pearson can either go to the right side and Jones becomes the back-up at both LT / RT or Pearson can back-up D'Brickashaw on the Leftside. Pearson has some pretty serious injuries in the past but when he's healthy he's only 25 and he's big and has played well when healthy. He'd be a really good signing as well as would Teague. If Teague is signed then you can say bye-bye to either Eslinger or Mangold. If Pearson is signed then it looks like it could be Cutler, Leinart or Ferguson at 4 with Mangold or Eslinger at 29 or 35. L.I.MikeBleedsGreen
I Said this on a old post weeks ago that we should grab Davis (TE) so that our noodle arm QB's can throw Short routes b/c thats as far as they can throw 10 &15 yd routes, unless we draft a young QB? quietjets
If Jets sign Tregue and Clements(preferably) then which prospects will be taken by Jets does not matter anymore.. Just take the best prospects available.
bitonti
If Jets sign Tregue and Clements(preferably) then which prospects will be taken by Jets does not matter anymore.. Just take the best prospects available. most fans forget that the draft isn't for fixing holes it's for planning for the future. Most players take 3-5 years to live up to potential, if at all. Those that don't are great to have but it's like gravy. You want instant impact players but that's not the real goal of the draft. Alot of instant impact players like Darrell Russell, Terry Glenn and Randy Moss seem to peak too early.
Writeguy
All these minor signings are smoke screens. I wonder what the Jets really have in mind. Teams don't go to the trouble of signing players just to create a smoke screen. This new front office is smart, and they're all business. Right now they are making smart moves to plug holes, so that when draft day comes, they can be very focused.
YJF
The new systematic approach by The Jets brass is that free agency is for the short term, The draft is for long term team building. Any free agents signed are for plugging holes, draft picks are for building blocks. I wouldn't put too much stock in a Trey Teague or Mike Pearson signing. They are two veterans with swingman capabilities on the o-line. Pearson is a left tackle with durability issues who is probably best suited for right tackle. Teague can play center, guard or tackle. The veteran players will be like an umbrella for the team, The rookies will be underneath that umbrella.
