Say what you want but the guy is a winner, has shown he can develop a QB and gets production on offense. The guy actually wanted to coach here, imagine a SB winning offensive minded coach wanted the Jets…..and they said no……

People have been dumping on him for a decade, even when he went to Dallas and their offense was always near the top people were wanting to fire hm every year.  Both him and Jerry Jones get killed constantly and both are good football people.

McCarthy has the same resume Sean Payton does, except he had a lot more to do with developing Rodgers than Payton did with developing Brees (who was already a pro bowl QB in San Diego)z

It’s possible that he needed a stalking horse to help his position with the cowboys. He interviewed with the jets on January 5th, the cowboys on January 8th. Gase named coach January 11

'I wanted the job': Mike McCarthy confesses he fibbed in Dallas Cowboys interview with Jerry Jones. I need to confess: I told Jerry I watched every play of the 2019 season," McCarthy said Wednesday during his introductory press conference. "I wanted the job. You do what you gotta do right?"

Reggie white all over again

And both of them are good. That being said no one thinks dak is going to take that team to the superbowl.

wrong.

McCarthy was hired in 2020. Saleh in 2021.

Could definitely see it being the Cowboys versus Eagles in the NFC Championship game. Dak is probably playing the best football of his career (cue a boneheaded pick six coming up), they have a bona fide superstar wide receiver, some decent running backs and an offensive line that blocks people. Plus, their defence is plenty nasty.

Edit - think the three best teams in the NFC are the Eagles, 49ers and Cowboys, in no particular order. Pretty sure the NFC representative in the Super Bowl will be one of those three teams, barring some major upset.

I thought and he did look terrible at first but talent shines through. If you switch saleh and him team to team the results would be pretty similar.

If we had like dak, QB saleh would be seen as a superstar

Ummm, McCarthy came to the Jets with a full plan, a staff already picked set up that had treated the prior season as if they were a coaching Staff game planning for games,  and wanted to Coach Darnold. He told several media outlets he wanted the Jets job when it opened after Bowles.

The Johnsons and Maccagnan felt insulted that McCarthy essentially interviewed THEM and had stipulations and conditions,  including roster control.

They said no thanks and hired Adam F*CKING Gase instead.

It will take the Jets another 5-7 years to recover.

You drinking too much wine ? 😂

It hasn’t occurred to you that since woody took over that no true top candidate with choices ever comes here?
There was a thread about the GMs that refused to interview here. I have bad news for you. The 5-7 years is more like 30.

The cowboys hired McCarthy January 8th, the jets hired gase January 11th.  I remember the jets being turned off, but those vibes come from a guy that really doesn’t want the job. Sorta  like JD when he asked for a 6 year deal and 2 assistant GMs and a huge increase to the scouting budget, it’s the jets they are desperate.

did you see what I posted about McCarthy and jones ? Was he interviewing jones or kissing his ring?

he wanted the cowboys job.  He took a shot with the jets if they wanted to give him everything he wanted and more  but that sounds like a plan B to me

Incomprehensible that we chose Gase over him.  Mac was disgustingly bad as GM and Christopher Johnson that much worse as owner.... I would give up decent compensation for McCarthy and we could have had him for nothing.......... Another example of an extremely long list of blunders by this franchise.

The jets hired Gase in 2019, the Cowboys hired McCarthy in 2020. McCarthy wanted the Jets job and Jason Garrett was the coach of the Cowboys still.

McCarthy did not want the Jets job, that is just some mandella effect crap going on there. He spoke with us and others. He was open to taking the job if XYZ etc etc gave him full power etc.

But it was not like he was hammering the table to be the jets coach. He was looking at all opportunities.

Not too sure about that, he met with the Jets for an entire day and they let him leave with no contract. From what was discussed at the time, all indications was he wanted the Jets job and wanted to develop Darnold.

I corrected it but it still fits. Jets got used. You think he wanted the jets over Dallas ?

I don't think they interviewed McCarthy in 2020 when they hired Gase in 2019 and kept him for 2020. Some of the posts in here are gold. Douglas hired Saleh but McCarthy had already been in Dallas a year.  Douglas didn't hire Gase.  If anything Gase hired Douglas

@Matt39 @bitonti I believe you guys always say jets don’t want to pay for good positional coaches…..

Not sure if that’s the case or not. But in the early Woody years the HC was propped up with really solid positional coaches. They started leaving towards the end of Rex and have been bad since. Herm always had a really solid staff. The 2009 Rex staff was loaded besides Shotty (he kept Callahan and Westhoff).

IIRC, there was a lot of Manish ****ery sliming McCarthy for demanding $8 mil per. Pretty clear that Maccagnan was using Mehta as his hatchet man to move public sentiment and, as a result, Woody

Schefter tweeted that McCarthy didn't want to be considered, and wasn't pursuing any vacancy other than the Jets.

The Jets put out an official article saying that they had interviewed him for the head coaching vacancy, together with Bienemy and Gase. Reports also suggested the Jets had interviewed Todd Monken, Kris Richard and Kliff Kingsbury. We sure do know how to pick em.

Presumably, Maccagnan didn't want to let McCarthy choose his assistants without getting the tick of approval from the GM. McCarthy probably knocked all his coffee cups over in his office and stormed out, because Maccagnan was a nobody who had done nothing, and McCarthy had won a Super Bowl with Rodgers.
