SouthernJet
From Dan Leberfeld: "The Jets' strength program was a big problem for the team last year. According to one published report, 25 players were overweight at different times during the season, and former head coach Herman Edwards didn’t fine any of them. We also hear that players were signing in, but not working out. It’s hard to blame strength coach Marcus Paul for the Jets' issues in the weight room when the head coach wasn’t disciplining players for breaking rules. You can have the best strength coach in the league, but if the head coach doesn’t back him up with fines he will be rendered ineffective." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- well that basically sums up the 'Players coach, ole Uncle Hermie',, un-freakin real in the competitive as hell NFL that we had a coach who put bein a 'bud' to players and not emphasizing working out,,dont tell me he treated them like men and trusted them,,its his job to get it done, by trusting (if it works) or by fining and kicking ass if they are immature and dont follow the program,,adios muchacho Herm the Turd

In addition, he wouldn't know what X's and O's were if they bit him on the a$$. Here, here! He still has to prove himself, but I can say with some degree of confidence, that 35 year old, 1st time head coach, Eric Mangini, will command, demand, and get more respect from both players and fans than Herm could have ever imagined. Just my opinion.
NIGHT STALKER
Hermy was nothing more than a work in progress...a HC with OJT written all over him. rajensen088
uh, no he wasnt,,he was a borderline idiot as far as Xs Os,,we need a coach not a freakin preacher He had a better record than Mangini at making half time adjustments. That's first rate coaching compared to the worn out cliches Mangini gives out at every interview. Only Bill Parcells and Herman Edwards won AFC East championships with the Jets since the merger in the early 1970's. Most successful HC's in Jet history: 1. Weeb Ewbank. Won a Super Bowl 2. Herman Edwards. Three playoff appearances in five years and one AFC East championship. 3. Bill Parcells. One playoff and one AFC East championship in three years as coach. #90
Really?????? What a shock! I am sure no one would have guessed that. My favorite was Herm running the two a day practices with all the palyers in shorts and no pads 80% of the time.

johnny green balls
the jets made the playoffs 3 times IN SPITE of herm, can anyone honestly say that if we had parcells at the helm the last couple years we wouldn't have had more success in the playoffs? lawngnome o-line
Hermie jumped off on what parcells started...that's all...he got fortunate with pennington as he led them from 2-5 to win the division at what 9-7??? Oh yea...that's a decisive AFC East victory...I have more X and O's knowledge than Hermaphrodite

We already disproved that he was good at half time adjustments in the last thread you said this. Herm was constantly outcoached and it was embarassing, especially in the playoffs. Good riddance. Backing into the playoffs twice and winning the AFCE with a 9-7 record on a 3-way tiebreaker? You call that successful?
PeterNorth09
What always bothered me more about Herm was his ultra-conservative gameplanning. That was a bigger detriment to this team than the fact that he wasn't an ass-kicker which he obviously wasn't.

We will find out by next 5 years. Quiet, you still do not get it - HE WANTED OUT OF HIS CONTRACT! This was Herm The Turd - if the team was overweight at times without restrictions, it was because Edwards wanted KC or a better contract extention. Since the possibility became more realistic as the season went on, he let it slack so his team would look bad on the field & not by his coaching... It was all smoke & mirrors to get himself fired - which eventually it did! Good riddance... US HERM
