While perusing through pro football reference, I discovered an incredible statistic.

You see, the passing leader in the league is Tua Tagovailoa, with 4451 yards. However, one player on the Jets has Tua beat, albeit in punting yards.

Our very own Thomas Morstead, on only 92 (!!!) punts, has achieved 4509 punting yards, good for best in the league. What a hero.

We all know they're gonna pass on Penix Jr. or some other franchise QB just to make sure AR doesn't take umbrage.

What franchise QB is going to be available at 9-15 where we will be picking.

MAHOMES went around #10 IIRC

So did Deshaun

But other than those two, and Brady, and Rodgers, and Marino, and Montana, and Favre, and Brees, and Roethlisberger, and some current/recent notables Prescott, Flacco (hey, he's a SB champ), Cousins, and Derek Carr whom some still wish we'd locked into for 3 seasons.

So other than them, and plenty of others over time!

It's easy to forget the Jets - while it's true they're SO good at it - aren't the only ones to whiff on higher 1st round pick QBs. Trubisky was taken ahead of both Mahomes and Watson. A super-smart organization gave up more value than 2 full drafts' worth of picks for the privilege of moving up to select super-bust Trey Lance, thinking they were about to repeat the Machiavellian magic KC did with Alex Smith keeping the team competitive while keeping the seat warm for Mahomes. Kyler Murray. Daniel Jones. The list would be more extensive if we went back to 2010 or so since the Jets took Sanchez.

This all ignores the greater reality, which is the Jets aren't drafting a QB this season anyway. Rodgers would have to retire by March-April for that to happen, with the team already without a 2nd round pick.

If there's a heavily-coveted QB prospect sitting there at #9 and we pick there, and the next 3rd-5th OTs are about evenly ranked, I'd be pretty surprised if Douglas didn't heavily look to trade down to recoup a 2nd rounder.
