JetNation
The New York Jets wanted to beat Bill Belichick in his final game as Patriots head coach and running back Breece Hall put the team on his back and got them there. Hall would run for 178 yards on 37 carries. Clearly trying to get Hall to the 1,000 yard mark on the season, the big back came up six yards short as he finished with 994. Hall’s 50-yard TD run in the fourth quarter was the lone touchdown on the day for either team and put the Jets up 17-3. It was a battle of field position for much of the day as snow fell throughout and conditions became increasingly difficult for players to find their footing. IT was the Jets defense that dominated the Patriots all day. Bryce Huff’s two sacks gave him 10.5 on the season while Quinnen Williams added a couple en route to seven sacks on the day for Gang Green. And after failing to force a turnover for much of the day, the Jets intercepted Bailey Zappe twice in the same drive. First it was Ashtyn Davis picking Zappe off deep down the field before fumbling the ball on what looked to be an attempt to lateral the ball back to teammate Sauce Gardner. Just a few plays later, slot corner Michael Carter deflected a Zappe pass over the middle that went into the hands of Tony Adams. Both Adams and Davis had key passes broken up earlier in the game as well. The Jets did have one scary moment as wide receiver Garrett Wilson took a shot to the top of the head that appeared to injure his neck. Not long after that we saw rookie lineman Joe Tippmann jogging off the field and being replaced with Chris Glaser. After the game head coach Robert Saleh said that he was “proud” of his team and appreciated the fact that they didn’t lose out late in the season as they did last year. The 178 yards rushing for Breece Hall represents a new career high. A loss would have had the Jets picking 7th in the draft with a chance to go as high as five. The win means the Jets currently sit at 9 and could fall as low as 12.
