RB Dalvin Cook added to Ravens Active Roster; How much does he help Baltimore this weekend?

Obviously John Harbaugh can’t evaluate talent, I heard from many reliable sources that Cook is washed and shouldn’t be on an NFL roster.

He is washed but the Ravens picked him up for pennies on the dollar and if he can contribute a few carries as a goal line/short yardage back it will be a good signing. Signing him for $8 million while Alan Lazard was our #2 WR was stupid AF.

i mean he looked pretty crappy when he was here. he can probably still play and gain some yds at times. but he isn't gonna be some epiphany for the ravens.

cant wait to see what a competent offense does with him. This will be an eye opener either way, maybe he is washed maybe he is great. I think he has the talent and capable of much more than waht he did during the season. 

But ravens bout to prove it either way.

He had a few flashes for the Jets but was very underwhelming.

Once Breece Hall got going behind the same OLine and without much of a passing game it made it even more clear that Cook had lost a step IMO.  I think Cook showed he needs a good OL to do well.  Breece Hall showed he can actually make a bad OL look better than it is.

the advanced metrics showed exactly this prior to the Jets signing him. He was worst in the league (or close to it) in yards above expected per rush in 2022 which basically means he gets what the line gives him and no more. It was the exact reasoning people were giving for not signing him.

Putting aside Rodgers himself, polarizing as that decision was, because it's unknown how much pressure came from above. Beyond that, if he turned down OBJ he could turn down Lazard and other on the AR wishlist, too.

Quite the failure signings and retained veterans -- just over $50MM in pay for this lot, plus another year of Lazard fully guaranteed):

1. $11MM Lazard (also $11MM more gtd for 2024)
2. $3MM Cobb
3. $7MM Cook (with Breece already at >90%, right after taking his clone in the draft, keeping MC1 anyway? I think they had 4 RBs on the roster when Cook was signed)
4. $4MM Hardman (they did get KC to eat $1MM of it; yay, but they planned out the season with the idea he'd be contributing on the field)
5. $9MM Duane Brown (they had to plan as though there was a good chance he wouldn't be ready to go; that's their business. Not that he's nearly what he once was, but it's tough to swallow seeing Donovan Smith sign after the draft and start every game for KC for 1/3 what the Jets paid Brown).
6. $17MM CJ Mosley (Douglas reportedly tried to put the squeeze on him, but CJM called his bluff because he waited until the summer - with no other MLB on the roster e.g. re-signing Alexander as a placeholder for under $2MM - to even make that attempt)

Not re-signed or retained:

• Kwon Alexander ($1.3MM x 1 yr to Steelers)
• Nate Herbig ($4MM/yr x 2 yrs to Steelers, 1 yr guaranteed)
• Mike White ($4MM/yr x 2 yrs to Miami, 1 yr guaranteed). Yes, we know why.
• Braxton Berrios ($3.5MM x 1 yr to Miami; I mean, even keeping him at the overpriced $5MM he was due, he's better than Cobb and Hardman at $7MM plus the extra roster spot those two cost)

Forgivable:

• Fant $3MM was a bargain for Houston, except he was never re-signing here after feeling he was snubbed for a long term extension in the mid-teens per, plus at 31 he was coming off his second crappy season out of 3 here.
• Clark $4MM -- a career model of good health tears his ACL during OTAs in the spring ffs. Sucks, but what can you do.
• AVT missing most of the season again. One upper-body injury is a fluke. No one honest figured he would tear an Achilles in Denver on grass in immaculate weather; blaming the position change is unconvincing, as a number of players all over the field suffered the same fate this season. 
• I guess the 2nd year guarantees for Uzomah and Tomlinson, only in that these errors were made the prior offseason. This year? For all the fan sentiment to cut them, like fans do with any underperforming player with major + fully guaranteed $, there isn't a GM in the league that'd cut them with $20MM fully guaranteed due between them.
• McGovern $1.9MM. Yeah, he's not the most popular around here, but he'd been an every-week starter for several years and was barely half the cost of a number of other backups like ex-Jets Feeney ($3.25MM) & Herbig ($4MM), plus getting him on board before the draft prevented them from desperately trading up to probably draft the same player (Tippmann) who ended up falling to them (and forcing him to start week 1 ready or not, which he wasn't).
• Elijah Moore trade. Did they get full value for him? No way, seeing how they used the #34 overall pick to get him in the first place, but once this offseason rolled around you can't keep a guy in the locker room who has a heated standoff with his OC and then vents about the team publicly midseason. If he's producing like Calvin Johnson then you put up with it. 

All this is about Dalvin Cook in my head, somehow.

I say inbetween small role and solid committee. I don't think hes as bad as he looked here. He's always been a guy that needs to get going. I could see between 7-10 carries, maybe even getting a bump if he gets hot. The ravens RBs, hill and Gus Edwards are not like Breece where its obvious who should be getting the touches. He's just as good or maybe even the best RB on the roster. Im actually rooting for him. He didn't get what he signed up for here, hopefully he gets it going this weekend.

Going to close this saying he had No Impact.

Healthy running backs including Gus Edwards, and even including garbage time where you’d expect Cook to get some carries, he did not do much.

Cook is clearly the RB3. We are now heading into the crux of the season. Harbaugh will rely on the guys who got him there.

Dalvin Cook does not look much different than he did with the Jets.
