Proper etitquette

...table napkins or serviettes are pieces of linen to protect the clothing and are used to wipe ones mouth and fingers at the table.

Table napkins were practically unknown in the Western world till about the 16th century. Up till then diners who could afford linen would use the table cloth to clean their fingers on. The French used to have doubliers, a second cloth and often a longiere, a third cloth just for the purpose of wiping one's hands. When napkins first showed up, such were more like towels, touailles, and those were fastened to the walls, for back then linen was expensive.

being on my 23rd year of marriage to my lovely british wife, I am still learning proper table manners..... just the other night I learned when eating soup, you actually drag the spoon away from you & not towards you.

as a generalization, americans have lousy table manners.I agree with my wife that its important to teach children good table manners.

its tough being me around food with her in the room. everytime, I gotta wait for her to leave the room before I can drink the last bit of milk from the cereal bowl.

I really gotta say though that I am thankful for all I've learned from her regarding table manners though, especially being out with people with atrocious eating habits.

Kinda funny the Frogs are all concerned with proper table manners. They didn't have any problem with buttslamming a monkey to start the aids virus.
