Are the 49ers waiting for Robert Saleh to get fired?? -SI (no mention of Bill Belichick being a scumbag)

 49ers currently don't have a defensive coordinator.

Theoretically, they could have their pick of any available defensive coach, because their personnel is outstanding. Who wouldn't want to coach Nick Bosa and Fred Warner?

But the 49ers don't want to deviate from what they've been doing schematically the past seven seasons. And Bosa and Warner both seem to have a big say into who the defensive coordinator will be. Because once Bosa made it known that Wilks didn't have the defense prepared for specific plays in the Super Bowl, Wilks was fired three days later.

So the 49ers have to be careful if they bring in another outsider to be their defensive coordinator. Unless of course that outsider is Robert Saleh.

Saleh isn't really an outsider -- he was the 49ers defensive coordinator from 2017 to 2020. And he isn't exactly available, either -- he's the head coach of the New York Jets, for now. That organization is dreadful and he hasn't made the playoffs in three seasons as head coach. If they start out slow next season, they could fire him before it ends, because remember, that organization really stinks.

It's possible the 49ers expect Saleh to get fired either midway through the upcoming season or right after it. And if they want Saleh back, it's possible they'll wait for him, which would mean promoting someone already on the coaching staff to defensive coordinator temporarily in a pseudo-interim position until Saleh is available.

I fully expect Saleh to return to the 49ers as their defensive coordinator sooner or later.

Saleh should be a man and step down ... Sometimes the best thing you can do is acknowledge who you are ... He may not be a head coach.

He is a firey emotional defensive coordinator with a simplistic plan on defense ... Keep it simple ... play fast.

You don't need to be a former coordinator or a former player to be a head coach ... You do have to be a stellar evaluator and strategist. You also need to be a leader of men. Finally you probably need to have an elevated problem solving mind that is able to compartmentalize, mask, and/or address deficiencies on the team and coaching staff.

Saleh likely has some of the traits necessary, but is woefully lacking in some aspects as well.

It's time .. step down. He may be a bigger bust than he who shalt not be named.

Why do the Niners want Saleh back?  He failed there the last item he was there.

His defense is Steve Wilks D.

SF is going to go out and get a young aggressive coach.  They have twice seen what an actually aggressive D can do in the big game.

And the Jets are just waiting for the 49ers to fire the choke artist, Kyle Shannahan so they can do a little swampsies!

I'd be thrilled if we had Shanahan as HC of the NYJ (as I'm sure we all would be).  Though I will say this: I'd prefer to not make it to the SB if we would lose in the fashion the Falcons lost.

Just asking a question because I'm curious. Who could have coached the Jets to more wins the past 2 seasons given everything else being equal (injuries, bad OL and Wilson quarterbacking the majority of the games?) Let's assume that the head coach had to play Wilson for as long as Saleh was forced to.

Is the ink dry on Wink’s new deal at Michigan?

About what I expected.

I hope you realize I'm just joking.

Kotite would've only equaled Saleh's win total, not surpassed it.

I was thinking the same thing.  Trade saleh for a second or third rounder, move Ulbrich to head coach or hire Vrabel.  Pretty simple.

LMAO!  Could you imagine getting a 2nd rounder for Saleh (to replace the one we lost for AR8) and then hiring Vrabel?!   Talk about a dream scenario!

Hands down the biggest reason we didn't win more games over the past 2 years is Zach Wilson. And I really don't see any other coach changing that as long as he was the one chucking footballs and taking a million sacks. But again, I'm open to reading which coach would have made a difference.

This kind of forward thinking doesn't work at 1 Jets drive ... They are waiting for everyone to start playing checkers again.

2 years ago I would 100% agree with you.  This past year, no way.  Why would a HOF QB like AR8 need a total revamping of the OL and WRs, when we're trashing ZW for not winning with them?

Why not get a first rounder for Zach while you're at it?

Rodgers playing instead of Zach and we beat NE, Oak and LA. That's with the same line and receivers he had. Improve the OL and get one receiver and this is a 11-12 win team.
