Good news for cash strapped teams such as the New York Jets as the NFL salary cap is going to be going up by roughly $30 million for the 2024 season.  This, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

Salary cap news:

The NFL announced that the 2024 Salary Cap will be $255.4M per club, with an additional $74M per club payment for player benefits, which includes Performance Based Pay and benefits for retired players. Total 2024 player costs will be $329.4M per club, or more…

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) February 23, 2024

With less than $5 million in cap space, this news will be warmly received by Joe Douglas and company.  The Jets GM will also have some more moves to make that will free up additional cash.  Expect the Jets to either release or re-work contracts for CJ Mosley, John Franklin-Myers, CJ Uzomah, Laken Tomlinson, DJ Reed and others.

That's good to hear, now go spend all of that plus more on the OL.

Huff is still all but guaranteed to leave unless they free up enough cap to use the tag on him. Otherwise, he'll surely wait until he hits FA and even if the Jets want to bid, odds are high he'll get a better opportunity elsewhere. JD sealed that fate with back to back years of first round DEs.

There are definitely plenty of places to free up space too, but we said the same thing last year and nothing was done by JD other than pushing dead money into future void years for many of those terrible contracts listed. Let's hope that's not the case again this year. Although it's kind of a joke seeing DJ Reed on that list. Only thing that would possibly happen with his contract is an extension for even more money with how he's played these past 2 years.

Can't wait for QBs to get even more money!

While RBs put their bodies on the line and are out of the league in 5 years getting paid pennies in comparison while carrying the offenses

$60M a year for Kirk Cousins coming up

To be fair, QB is kind of important.  Countless examples of great RB’s barely helping win/loss records, while extremely few examples of great qb’s doing the same.

This should not change what are smart moves at all but probably will.

Mosley and Thomlinson should both still be cut.

Lmao theres 0% chance Mosley gets cut. Tomlinson could be back on a restructure as well

why would we ever cut Mosley? we should for sure restructure him.

The easiest thing in the NFL to find is an ILB that makes tackles.

Mosley does not blitz, Mosley can't cover anyone.

He makes tackles.  You find Ilbs that can make tackles as cheap vet FA or mid to later round draft pick or later round trade.

As for the over blown 'leadership' angle, a week after he was gone a new leader of the D would take over.

People talk about restructuring as if Kramer was talking about insurance companies...'You just write it off!'

You are pushing liaiblites for that player into the future, that is all you are doing.

i like Quincy but dude makes at least 1 bonehead play a game. doesn't strike me as a rocket scientist exactly.

I agree and I don’t like his contract, however, his benefits far outweigh his negatives. IMO
