Popular Post Jdeet
Giants trade a 2nd and 5th and then sign this “edge rusher” (8 sacks in 2023) for what turns out to be 30 mil per season for 5 seasons with a ton of guaranteed money, lose their only real playmaker to their division rival, for what is a reasonable contract, lose one of their best players in McKinney, and sign a couple of average offensive lineman. Jets sign what turns out the to be one of the only real (must sign) backup QBs available, with Brissett, Minshew, and Darnold signing for teams where they will be competing for starting jobs this season, sign young mid range OG and DT with limited risk, allowing for bigger splashes, and re-sign the best kicker in their history. bonkertons
Without that contract the Burns trade would have looked like a great move. However $30M for a pure pass rush specialist coming off a down year is a massive risk. If he gets back to his pre-2023 trajectory then maybe it could end up looking "OK", but I highly doubt that contract will ever look "good". Jets moves so far have been low key, and while there hasn't been anything to go crazy about, there also hasn't been anything that could potentially bite us in the ass down the road. Considering the outlook of our cap situation next year and especially in 2026, this is kind of what I expected. Lower cost investments and maybe some expensive short term signings(Bakhtiari). Will be interesting to see what we do at WR though - that's the one spot I can see JD rolling the dice on an expensive contract.

JoeNamathsFurCoat
Tyrod Taylor is more reliable on the field than ZW and Tim Boyle but that’s an insanely low bar to clear. And he can’t stay on the field and will be 35 when the season starts. I get that fans are elated to have somebody other than Zach Wilson at backup QB. But JD has no vision and no creativity. Sam Howell played pretty well in his first real opportunity and is on the books for 1M per. There is some degree of upside there. He’s a much better option than Tyrod. The commanders hung around in a lot of games and Howell has the toughness and right kind of mentality to lead a team in the 4th Q. They nearly came back and won the game vs the Jets behind Howell. Tyrod is made of glass and has never been good.

The Offseason has only just begun. Plenty of time (we can hope) for JD to acquire a future QB prospect of some kind. 2. There is no evidence whatsoever that Sam Howell is available, or at what price, for trade at current. And I say that as a guy living in the DC region and immersed in it's sports media on my commutes. You like Howell, that's fine. But he's likely to remain here in DC as the bridge starter/#2 behind whomever they draft, and was never on offer to JD, much less cheaply in terms of compensation back to the 'Ders.

Green Ghost
The Jets sign a backup QB who is also a Faberge egg, but most of us are okay with it because he’s a professionally competent backup for $18 mil over 2 years. The Giants trade what amounted to a half season of Leonard Williams and a 5th round pick for a 25yo who is one of if not the best ER’s in the NFL, and guaranteed him $87 mil over 5 years. How are these things comparable, other than your feelings got hurt listening to WFAN yesterday?

Augustiniak
Giants seem poised for a rebuild and would not be the least bit surprised if they took a qb in round 1. Dabol inherited jones and will get his chance to draft one.
Joejet
So here is the deal, when all my friends at the golf course ask me how I can stand being a Jets fan I tell them that it’s simple, come January most fans are in a panic as to how their team will do in the playoffs. slimjasi
Yeah, the Burns deal looks like an overpay given that contract and I'm fascinated to see how they address the hole at QB (are they taking someone at 6?). This is probably a make or break year for Daboll, who followed up his awesome rookie campaign with a huge stinker in year 2. Having said that, why do you guys get so worked up about Jets fans being pessimistic about the Jets? A lot of Jets fans don't believe the team will be good . . . because the team has not had a winning record in 9 years. It's not complicated. It's a conditioned response to perpetual disappointment. And we are coming off as disappointing of a season as we have had in my lifetime. All of that hype and excitement for 4 plays of Aaron Rodgers. It was classic Jets. Meanwhile, Jets fans are as fickle as any other group of people. If the Jets win their first 2 games next year, you'll see threads on here about winning the division and getting the 1 seed. 2

Daboll is in a weird spot b/c he didn’t draft a qb, yet he’s been bad and now if he’s in win now mode you keep saquon and don’t overpay for an edge rusher like that. This regime seems to be in limbo and the qb situation will probably remain murky b/c even if they draft a guy they still have jones.
extmenace
Giants have 4 Super Bowl wins since 1987 and really, they have 1 Super Bowl in the 80’s, 90’s, 2000’s and 2010’s. If you’re a giants fan who is in their 40’s, you’ve got to witness 4 championships. giant fans don’t get it, they’ve just got the result multiple times in their life times that this fan base hasn’t.

I wouldn't say Daboll has had been bad - I'd say he's had one really good year and one really bad year. I still think he has a lot of promise as a coach - i think he got a bit overhyped after year 1 and I thought their downfall last year was very predictable (one of my favorite Unders of the season). There are rumblings they want to move off Jones (I would). I agree, it's a tricky situation. Very curious to see what they do at QB.
K_O_Brien
Runyan and Eluemunor are two of the better Day One signings. Addressed a position of need for the Giants at a reasonable cost. The Burns move, I don't like so much, and losing Barkley to De Birds has to sting. But they've still had a better free agency thus far than us. 2

They’re both 25, but if I had to choose between Huff and Burns, I’m going with Burns every time, and as you know, I’m a Jets shoulda kept Huff guy. One seems to be ascending, the other has been a star for each of his 5 seasons. The Giants not paying $17 mil per for a S and also letting a good RB walk isn’t bad when you get back a premiere ER, two OL and another RB who knows your system. It seems like Schoen is committed to positional value. Being able to get Burns (who the Rams offered two #1’s and a 3rd for last season) without giving up a #1 was a heist. Guaranteeing him $87 mil ive 5 years is the cost of doing business.
