OtherwiseHappyinLife
What are your thoughts? Keep in mind it was reported we had slightly less than $10M available cap BEFORE signing Williams. Any big moves will require some restructuring to existing players. 1. Do we sign Clowney or lose a bidding war? Is this really were $10M should go? 2. Who is our slot receiver? Is Boyd still an option? Any other names? 3. Any takers on Zach, Lazard? How much cap will we need to eat? 4. Who’s the 3rd safety in the rotation? 5. Do you think we bring in a veteran swing LT as contingency for Smith? Any other moves?
Scotty Wooty Doo Doo
1 Get him a pastrami and swiss sandwich and let the chips fall 2 Draft 3 Eat the cap money , cant bring either of these guys back 4 Call up Justin Simmons and give him the other half of Clowney's sandwich 5 Draft
OtherwiseHappyinLife
My own thoughts .. 1. I think our remaining cap should go to higher priorities. This one has Saleh’s name written on it. 2. I want Boyd and it will cost some money. Do not want OBJ but feel that JD might give this one gift to Rodgers if the cost is low. 3. No takers before the draft. I can also envision the Jets ultimately cutting them with no cap savings. Addition by subtraction. 4. I hope they bring back Ashtyn. He’s evolved into a playmaker. 5. Believe we’ll wait to see how the draft plays out. Can envision a late veteran addition if we don’t go OT early and if Warren doesn’t look ready. 1 & 2 are lingering areas were JD needs to make the smart call and not give in to the bias of Saleh and Rodgers .. something that has hurt the Jets in the past. MykePM
RB2. Izzy has potential, but we need a proven option there. Doesn’t have to be a superstar.

Quote Do not want OBJ but feel that JD might give this one gift to Rodgers if the cost is low. No. Rodgers got all his gifts last year. Cobb and Lazard are done here. No more of that. Let JD cook. Quote 4. I hope they bring back Ashtyn. He’s evolved into a playmaker. Agreed. Looks like best option. Regarding Zach, I don't see us cutting him until we have his replacement sorted. We're shelling out the cash anyway. Why create a hole with urgency that we don't need to. Cutting Zach to bring in a low-round draft pick or some cheap (and therefore lousy) FA QB doesn't really help the team. Tannehill and maybe Wentz offer a modicum of upside if we needed to play either, but I doubt they will be affordable. It sounds nuts, but I can see a path where Zach is on the roster as our #3. FWIW, we know he 'can' win games in a pinch.

Sign Clowney only if its JD's number. No need to go any higher. Slot can be a rotation of a few guys - G Wilson, Williams, Gipson/whoever they may draft. Zach should just be cut at this point but see if you can throw him in any deals during the draft. Fine with holding on to Lazard unless they end up drafting a WR in the first 2 rounds. Then I'd cut his ass. Re-sign the elite Ashtyn - no brainer. Otherwise wait till after the draft. If Bakhtiari is up for it - I think he would be fine in a back up role at this point in his career. But that move might come closer to camp.

We do need a legit #2 who can block and catch. Maybe the next question is who are we restructuring to afford some of these things?
Bobby816
I think a few things need to happen. Extend Reed and lower his cap hit. Sign MC2 long term. Get a ground and pound depth RB. Restructure a few more guys. Get some depth in the S room. Resign Davis hopefully. Get a slot WR. Maybe this can wait until the draft. Maybe add a depth DE. A very underrated and important need. Izzy didn’t show much of anything last season.
KRL
My thoughts: - I'll be surprised if Clowney doesn't sign (low base with incentives) - With Wilson & Williams here I want Gipson to be given a shot at working with Rodgers and taking the slot spot. If you want long term success you have to give young players an opportunity to grow - I think Wilson could end up in DEN since they really don't have anyone. Lazard isn't going anywhere and will improve with Rodgers back - I expect Ashytn Davis to be back as the third safety (he finally flashed as a playmaker last year) - I won't be shocked if Becton is back to compete for the swing OT spot
Beerfish
imo the biggest need now is safety. WR and oline we can add in the draft. Dline and add would be okay but safety is a bigger hole right now.
nj meadowlands
In terms of FA, I imagine they will look at safety, LB and edge depth. I imagine they stick with Lazard as the 3rd receiver, which was the plan last offseason (or even the 4th receiver, if they take one in the first round). While OT remains a possibility in the draft, I think depth wise they are probably fine for now. Maybe they consider re-signing McGovern.
